I am correct in remembering HBK piledriving Cena on the steel steps during this match? I guess if HBK and Cena want to do a piledriver, nobody in management is going to complain. Was that not at WM23? I'm 99% certain it was.

I only remember that because Cena bladed and the WWE showed the match in black and white for the remainder of it.

That was one of my favorite matches I have ever seen on live TV. Very cool and very unpredicatable (I didnt expect it to be an Iron Man match lol).

This Raw took place on my 23rd birthday. Quite the birthday treat.

They just booked them to have a good match. And it was honestly a damn good match. If you haven't seen it, you need to look it up. It was one of those imo classics....and the fact we didn't know it would last that long made it that much more interesting. Personally, I wasn't a big fan, being there on the night. Maybe it was because I was hyped up for an Edge/Orton match that never happened, or the sheer amount of rest holds and padding. (Admittedly, given that they were seemingly caught by surprise by it, as they did keep talk of the other match even in the Raw show itself, they did keep it going under dire circumstances.) As I recall, the finish was rather good, but the rest didn't thrill me. I really enjoyed the Heat taping before the show, mind, and it was great seeing Shane O'Mac doing the Coast-to-Coast live, although the fact that they got out some local talent to absolutely destroy, when they (kayfabe) had someone in the same position from Italy (Santino) going over the previous week... Seemed a bit unfair.

Cena is not the same as he was in 2007. He's afraid to bump and he doesn't sell anymore these days. Well, he didn't sell the night before that match at Wrestle-friggin-Mania either. Shawn was bashing his leg in for the entire match, and Cena sold it like it was a mosquito bite. Also, I've always said I wish this outcome would have happened at Wrestlemania. What was the purpose of Shawn beating Cena the day after he lost to him via submission for the title? Yeah, that sucked the life out of me after witnessing the Taker v. Batista match live at Mania that year. Sure, it was a pretty good match, but if it would have been at WrestleMania, I think it would've been more special, and HBK would have beat Cena at Mania for a title. It would have also been a very nice pseudo-build for Taker vs HBK at WrestleMania down the line...having both guys walk out of Mania 23 as world champions. Kinda the opposite of WM 20, when JBL and HHH were talking backstage about who would retain their respective title belts by the end of the night.
