I recently came across some old World of Wrestling magazines from 2000. For those not familiar with the magazine it's a "smart" magazine that came out in 1999 and lasted just past the WWE purchasing WCW. In one issue there was an interview with Scott Steiner. When asked what he hates most about professional wrestling he talks about "guys in thier 40s and 50s who are still wrestling." He goes on to say that no one wants to see these old guys flopping around the ring and they need to move on so the "younger" guys can move up. Fast forward to TNA and look who was still wrestling.....

I think The Rolling Stones said something similar in the 60's or 70's.
I won't hold it against him.

The whole interview is loaded with this kind of stuff.
It was kind of funny at the end though they ask him what he thinks about internet wrestling fans and he said "they are jackoffs"

Well, he probably means holding the top spot and keeping people down politically through your connections with the booker, as well as guys who obviously are shells of their former selves, like what we saw from Hogan/Flair the other night.
Steiner is that way in the ring, but his overall look and stuff is somewhat the same.
The real reason he said it was to put himself over basically.

The funny thing is that he mentions Flair and Hogan in the interview as guys that no one pays to see anymore.

Steiner was always really out spoken about the older wrestlers in the last couple years of WCW.

Duh, everyone's like that.
When you're young, the old guys are taking your spot, your money, while you're so much better than them.
When you're old, you've earned your spot, you can't go like you used to, but you can still go to an acceptable level by your standards, fans are still popping for you, promoters are still willing to pay you, why should you give it up?

To be fair on Scotty, I suspect his TNA run was to repair his reputation after his last outing in the 'E so where's the harm in it?
He was never on top during his TNA run like most of the older generation were in WCW and he never demanded to be, never refused to put people over or set out to make them look bad in ring, which puts him head and shoulders above most of the ageing main event wrestlers that passed through TNA before him, like Savage and DDP.

The point is that it makes him hypocritical. For him at the time to say that's what's wrong with wrestling then come back and do the same thing makes him part of the problem. I really hate to admit it because I hate Hogan but Hogan in 2000 was drawing more than Scott ever has or will. Who did Savage keep down. The guys I heard about keeping people down in WCW were Hogan and Nash.
As far as Futureraven
in 2000 Scott had already earned his spot. He was nearing what should have been the end of his career by his standard. He was 37 and had already been world champion.

Was that the interview where he said "have you noticed you never see Ronald McDonald and Hogan in the same room at once?"

Who did Savage keep down. The guys I heard about keeping people down in WCW were Hogan and Nash. I brought up Savage as in his TNA run, he thought he should get a run with the belt after a handful of awful matches with the company and walked when TNA management refused. Likewise, DDP refused to put over Monty brown, while Steiner gave back and put over nearly everyone he faced as best he could. He might be hypocritical for wrestling at his age, but he really seemed to try and do what was best for TNA despite his reputation.

I don't see it as hypocritical, because he was never booked as a main eventer in TNA. He had a supporting role in the Main Event Mafia, and that's the closest he ever came. He mostly put people over, which is exactly what the older guys who are past their prime should be doing.

Kris, I was just voicing the thoughts that all these guys generally have overall. As for Steiner, well, he just seemed to hate Flaif and Hogan with a passion and used the ammunition he found at the time.
37's still pretty young, Bret Hart, Randy Savage and Booker T all won their fitrst titles at 35 for example, I'd say he was on the verge of going from young guy wanting it to old guy not wanting to get rid of it.

Dude you're complaining about an interview he probably doesn't remember, in which he was probably saying things to get over the angle he was in at the time. My guess is that this interview came out around the same time as the New Blood angle.

Gotta say Steiner wrestling in TNA never bothered me 1 bit. If anything I gained a ton of respect for him from his TNA run, as he had some (unintentionally) hilarious promos, some good matches inluding busting out the Frankensteiner again, and put people over.
Steiner's TNA run actually made me disappointed that he's retired.
