How about someone not on the ECW roster yet, Holly and Striker showed up over night. The 1st ECW ppv is still a few months away. ECW could be going in a whole new direction by then. Chris Benoit, Edge, Mr. Kennedy, are all guys I could see going after the ECW title early next year.

If anyone has seen any of his ROH work, you'd know that CM Punk makes a much better heel than face, and he's already very over as it is.
So I see a Punk heel turn down the line, and as someone else said the feud vs. RVD writes itself. But I don't see Punk winning this feud because it's too early for him.
And WWE are clearly serious about making ECW and important brand, and to show this I expect to see an ECWer win the Royal Rumble, now it could be Punk who would win the title at WM (playing off the old feud) or it could be a new contender who might sadly be someone like Test.

RVD vs CM Punk will probably be the ECW main event at WM 23 now that Angle is gone. But I do want to eventually see a Benjamin/Punk match.

I don't really want to see CM Punk pushed any more than he already is for the time being. He's currently going on his past in other promotions and getting cheered for that, but that will fade away as time goes on if he's forced too much or at least doesn't do something interesting.
They can turn him heel, but right now people don't want to boo him...so it wouldn't work yet.
Lets face it, if he started cutting heel promos currently...the crowd would just be holding up a bunch of signs saying "CM Punk is better than you". Already seen several of those, but there'd be even more if he was a heel. Not a good way to work a top heel for a promotion still trying to get off its feet, it'll mess with the new viewers.

Nah...fans WANT to see him in a nice long PPV match. These little 3 minute matches are good to get a gist of his moveset but people don't want to start believing he's "overrated".

I worded the pushed part improperly I guess. There's nothing wrong with (and would be a good idea in fact), for him to work a feud with longer matches...I just don't think it should be a main event feud yet.

I'm relatively sure that RVD will be defeating Big Show at the first ECW PPV (he's the only ECW wrestler over enough to do this, except for Sabu) and regain the title back. But that brings up an interesting question: Who will be the top heel that RVD (or whoever) will face AFTER Big Show? ECW can either build up a heel they already have, bring someone over from another brand/farm fed/promotion, or turn one of their babyface wrestlers. Big Show won't be as effective a heel without the title (just the fact that he has it pissed off fans of the old ECW) and eventually people will get tired of RVD vs. Show. So, who does everyone think will be ECW's next top heel? Kevin Thorn. I feel a stable coming on. A big storyline could be developed from it. ...maybe it'll happen.

Save the main event spot for next year's WM.

Jerry Lawler would be an excellent choice for a short program, given his anti-ECW stance and his ability to cut good promos (not an RVD strongpoint).

It's too bad that Mike Awesome is retired and his knees are bad. He'd make a great heel champion, especially if he performed in front of old ECW fans.

It's obvious that the next top heel will be the most charismatic wrestler this industry has seen in years. The man the crowd loves to hate, but can't help but admire due to his exciting and innovative ring style. YOUR next champion...
Mike Knox!

Maybe ECW should get a manipulative, smaller heel to carry the title. It would be a change from Big Show.

Jerry Lawler would be an excellent choice for a short program, given his anti-ECW stance and his ability to cut good promos (not an RVD strongpoint). Not only that, but if he is paired with someone decent he still can put on decent matches. Short term, I see Test and Striker as their top heels after Show. Long term, I honestly see Punk as their top heel.
