You know, giving it some thought, I think this may be WWE's most intriguing, best-written angle of 2010 thus far, and I say that as someone who doesn't particularly care for CM Punk.
They've done a careful job of not playing their hand too early with where Young's going, and he's functioning as one of the company's all-too-rare tweeners for the moment. We're at a point where for him to either join the Society or to reject them would both be logical extensions of his character and motivations, and that's something for bookers who generally aren't able to keep a single simple plot thread coherent for more than a couple weeks.
Young's character actually feels like he's grown and developed since NXT began. Barrett's big and evil, Gabriel's cute and flips around, Bryan loses, Skip is goofy, Tarver is a pathetic loser, Otunga's kinda-sorta a celebrity and is a dick about it, and Slater is an idiot, but Young actually feels like he's a multilayered character, and he's moving in unexpected directions.
And that's without getting into the fascinating triangle of a relationship between him, Gallows, and Punk. It's doing more to establish Gallows as a character beyond a generic enforcer, and to make Punk come across as a genuinely malevolent, manipulative demagogue than anything that's been done with the two of them on Smackdown since the faction started up. With the possible exception of Miz/Bryan, it's the only NXT angle that's building up and helping out its Pros as well as its Rookie.
I'm genuinely intrigued as to where this is going, and that's more than I can say for practically anything else on WWE's shows at the moment.

Yeah I'm liking it aswell. I never thought I'd find Young interesting besides him looking like Cena, but WWE has changed that.
He's also comfortable on TV, he has good facial reactions like when Punk was going to cut his hair, but Young changed his mind. That was good stuff. I think WWE has good solid babyface mid carder on there hands.
Also I agree with you on the Gallows point because he is now more then an enforcer and that's good thing because he's good in the ring and could give WWE depth in the future after breaking away from Punk

According to wikipedia Young has been wrestling since 2002. Besides Daniel Bryan he is the most experienced wrestler on NXT if not the most accomplished. He has made several appearances in dark matches on RAW and SD over the years in addition to working HEAT and Velocity. With that in mind it shouldn't be that suprising that he is improving every week after rough start. I'd rank him just behind Barrett and Otunga right now with the SES angle being a big part of it.

The whole angle would be better if Gallows/Festus could act, and if Young didn't look like a troll doll.
Young has been doing an OK job in the role...not stealing the show, though.

Just remember, Rock also had crappy looking hair when we first laid eyes on him.
