When the brand extention first started, they would kayfabe it to where if superstars from the other jumped the rail, the security and police would intervene. Remember, Goldberg had to "get a ticket" for a Smackdown PPV, because he didn't "work for that brand." With the Monday Night Wars, they are going to pull anybody from Smackdown to work Raw anytime they want. So does the brand really matter anymore ? For instance, if Triple H goes to Smackdown, you know that are going to be putting him in Raw matches when they feel it will draw interest.

They've been more sparing about it besides as it pertains to Jericho and / or the tag titles, really. Also, I really don't think WWE gives a damn whether or not TNA wants some kind of 'war' and won't let it affect them.

No.

Another problem is that a lot of times guys can jump brands in mid year without explanation. At least, Kurt Angle's "contract expired" before he jumped from Raw to Smackdown.

I'm thinking the crossbrand stuff might calm down a bit now. ECW is gone, and that was the worst offender of the brand split, guys jumping on and off that show with no explanation.
The Survivor Series-Wrestlemania time of year also seems to feature the most interbrand stuff. (or I guess now the Bragging Rights-Wrestlemania time of year)
Since it has had ppvs that often have interbrand matchups like Cyber Sunday, Bragging Rights, or Survivor Series.
Then the Royal Rumble winner goes on both shows until he decides. And sometimes theres interbrand feuds birthed from Rumble eliminations.
And then Wrestlemania features things like MitB and the lead up to that always has guys from the different brands fighting each other in different combinations. As well as a thrown together "all the divas fight" match.
Then some of this stuff might continue onto Backlash Extreme Rules.
And THEN the draft happens and things settle down (other than the MitB winner if he hasn't cashed in, and the Unified Tag Champs).

From a fan's perspective, I don't think anyone is thinking, I can't wait to see if (this superstar) goes to (this brand).

No and you want to know why? Because we all know Smackdown's going to end up getting screwed big time in the draft anyway.

Like I said before, Smackdown as a TV show, though often their talent works superior on PPVs, will never been equal to Raw until they go live. Why can't Vince get out the Friday time slot and get two hours of Tuesday night and air it when they shoot it or on a delay ? NXT has the better time slot and that's the 3rd level show.

THIS particular draft DOES matter, because it's the first one to happen after WWECW. There are a bunch of former WWECW guys buried in Raw's midcard hell who need to be rescued, while Goldust, who is old, beat up, and best used for putting other guys over and for comedy skits, is on the wrong damn brand.
Swagger jumping to Smackdown is obvious but if he stays on as a main eventer, that'll change the complexion of that show, especially if Randy also jumps, which it looks like he might.
I am also really hoping Yoshi, Christian, and Ryder all somehow make it to Smackdown. If nothing else, send Yoshi and Christian as a tag team package deal.
