He has been around since the KaiEnTai days of 1998. He did the broken English announcer gimmick for a brief time, which was funny. Funaki was like the Brad Armstrong of WWE. If you remember Brad Armstrong, he was with WCW since the early 90s. He would work a couple of matches, then disappear from TV, then come back and repeat the cycle. Funaki seemed to be doing the same. How did he stay on contract that long. ? They would use him, then take him off tv, then months later, bring him back to put over guys.

At least according to many of the posters on this site, Funaki was very good friends with both of them. When they were both gone, so was he. Not really surprising in retrospect.

For the same reason Hugo Savinovich survives so long - he was very useful to them in terms of foreign promotion and translations.

His WWE lifeclock was blinking red a few years ago. He's been a runner ever since. The Sandmen finally got him.

But they say it's not a gimmick, so clearly Kung Fu Naki has no use for it.

He was like Milton, working there for years and years when he was supposed to have been future endeavored several years ago.

Let's just say he "had something" on Vince McMahon.

I'm more curious on where did the Kung Fu Naki gimmick came from. All the news around that time said it was Funaki's own idea he had been pitching to anyone who would listen for years.

Serious answer: He was tri-lingual,and a really good hand to have around. He made wrestlers look like gold, and seemed really low-maintenance.
Plus, we never know...he might have taken pay cuts or something during the years to stay afloat.
Now, back to joke answers.

They should have made that his gimmick.
