I was thinking about some of the wrestlers reputations outside the ring and I remembered this story about Spike. A guy wrote into World of Wrestling the magazine and sent a picture of himself and his son with Spike. The guy's kid was in a wheelchair and was only 7 or 8 years old. They were at an autograph signing and he said Spike spent quite a bit of time talking to his son. Spike said he would see them at the show but the people didn't have tickets. The guy went on to say that Spike gave them tickets to the show and brought them backstage after and made sure the kid got to meet all the wrestlers he wanted to meet. The guy said everyone backstage was really friendly and even guys that his son didn't ask to meet were coming over and talking to him. This was in ECW and you don't really hear these kinds of stories much abiout ECW. I'm sure though that there are many stories like this. I've never heard one bad thing about the guy. I really enjoyed his matches in ECW and was really happy to see him in the WWE and TNA for the time he was in those companies. He willingly took so many big bumps and had really good matches with Mike Awesome. I think he often gets overlooked and feel like he is deserving of some praise for who he is as a person and for going out there and doing what he does.

I agree. I miss Spike but I'm sure he's doing well outside of the ring, unless he's still wrestling somewhere?

I remember hoping that WWE would give him the IC Title when he faced Eddie Guerrero at a House Show in Frederick, MD. He had the back story for it and theoretically they could've had Spike when it and just lose it at the next house show. It was still a good match and a fun show

He was wrestling indie shows and wrestled in TNA in March for one match.
I wish the WWE had done more with him.

He willingly took so many big bumps and had really good matches with Mike Awesome. If you can find it, check out his ECW World Title shot against Mike Awesome @ Guilty as Charged 2000. He takes a LOT of sick table bumps in what is effectively a prolonged, glorified squash match. The whole purpose of the match was just for Spike to get his ass kicked with lots of sick table bumps.

Love Spike. For a dude of his size and look to get over in such a big way in 3 televised wrestling companies is a very admirable thing.
