Has anyone here bought it yet? It came out today here in the US and A. I'm going to get here sometime. My friend and I were going to get it last night at midnight but we didn't.

I like the fact it was released on a weekend, as required by law in Japan.

I have picked it up and started to play it. No story spoilers (yet), but the battle system is a whole lot like Dragon Quest VIII's (same deal with a lot of the sounds). But then again, considering it was created by the same guys that did DQ VIII, I'm not surprised.

I'm pretty sure it's not going to catch on heavily here, but there is a quite large fan base here in America for Dragon Quest games.

Dragon Quest should have a larger fan base, as everyone who was alive in 1990 should have played the game, as part of a Nintendo Power Promotion where you suscribed to the magazine, and got a free game with it. I'm surprised that didn't happen with Earthbound at some point. In any case, the other games didn't sell very well, and Enix didn't see the value in an American Market. After all, Dragon Quest still beats Final Fantasy in Japan, so they shut down and did nothing here until they purchased Square Soft. Square Enix released a couple games for the PS2 and the Nintendo DS. But ultimately, the games are popular enough, but aren't the sellers that Final Fantasy are. Which is sad, since the art is superior.

I like the fact it was released on a weekend, as required by law in Japan. That is actually a myth. There is no law on the books, Enix made the rule, not Japan. I don't have it yet, but at TRU you get a $15 gift card when you buy it. I have been playing DQIV though and it is great. And I have DQV on tap. VII is a truly fantastic game as well, and blows and Final Fantasy out of the water. I had gotten the first game from Nintendo power, and hated it. Traded it for Castlevania 3 I believe.

I've read that they've really pushed the multiplayer aspects of this game, will I be missing on much playing it on my own? Or will it be much more difficult?
Hopefully they've realised that England isn't like Japan and the likelihood of me finding somebody to play a Dragon Quest with is small.
Finally I'm assuming it's like Final Fantasy and I won't have any issues if I haven't played any other games in the series?

You can play solo just fine, the characters just don't really have character or talk. And from what I have heard they are all kind of blank template that you have to build. I am pretty sure that this game is stand alone so far. But Dragon Quest is not like Final Fantasy. The first 3 games are all one story, 4-6 are one story. So they have sequels. They usually aren't direct however, and I don't think any have used the same lead. In fact I know at least one uses the kid of a hero from a previous game. www.gamesradar.com/f/everything-you-need-to-know-about-dragon-quest/a-2010070916555415094There is a cool article from GamesRadar.com about the series.

I have been playing it now, and it is definitely a DQ game. It is pretty awesome so far. Also, on the 30th, you can download free dlc at certain gamestops.

I don't think I've ever hated being broke as much as I do now. I love the Dragon Quest games that much.

I bought it last weekend, and I just started playing it last night. Really digging the game so far. Love the fact that you can customize your character at the beginning.

What I do hate is that multiplayer is local only. It needs some wifi net loving. None of my friends have a DS, let alone a Dragon Quest game.

I'm now about 10 hours into it, and I really, really love this game. Just finished the Jack of Alltrades quest, so I can now change my vocations at will.
Being able to customize companions is awesome, and the alchemy gimmick is really elaborate.

I picked my copy up on Monday, and even though I'm enjoying it so far, I'm finding it wayyy too easy. It seems easier to grind for gold and buy all the best equipment than in previous DQ games so far. Of course I'm still not too far in so hopefully that will change.
I LOVE the game's opening intro. Blew me away.

Nintendo/Square Enix are really pushing this game over here, there's constant adverts for it on TV at the moment although most of them seem to be focusing on you being able to dress your character however you want.

I hate the majority of Nintendo DS adverts over here, they all seem so...bland. Seriously, they made Dragon Quest IX sound uninteresting. That should be a crime.

Finally picked it up just about an hour ago. Wish me luck into not getting sucked in on it, so I don't have my GF throwing my DSi XL to the walls and breaking it.
