It's just now making the rounds on On Demand HD (another thing killing places like Blockbuster btw), and I really thought it was pretty good. It had that right amount of stuff from the original with the right amount of original material to make it one of those good remakes, like a remake with purpose. Most of the FX were pretty top notch too, I loved that Kraken, and talking about it with other like minded friends we all agreed that it was an interesting spin to make the madusa have a really pretty face. Now I'm all excited for part 2. Anyone else like this film?

I really wanted to like it, as I'm a fan of the original movie and the mythology in general. I was disappointed. I'm glad you liked it, but I just wasn't that entertained. The FX was top notch, but I thought that they took way too many liberties with the story.

I thought the effects were fantastic, they have to be at the very least nominated for as Oscar.
As for the film, I really enjoyed it for what it was, and that was big, dumb awesomeness. I figure for all the money they spent on it they could've sprung another couple million on a better script, but I can forgive them for that.

This guy I know actually said to me that the movie was a cross between Pirates of the Caribean & Lord of the Rings.
Needless to say, my answer was, "Um, you do realize it's a remake of a movie made in the early 80's long before those 2 movies existed?"
