Gamestop has a Power Saver sale going right now, and Assassin's Creed II is marked down to 19.99. I generally enjoyed the first one, but never finished it because it was so monotonous. Is the second one any better? I heard they made the gameplay less repetitive, but is it worth a buy?
Also thinking of picking up Dark Sector or Mercenaries 2. For 3.50$ and 4.50$, it is kind of hard to go wrong with any game.

wait for the game of the year version in a couple of months, that'll be worth it.

Absolutely. It's leaps and bounds better than the first game, has great atmosphere, and better pacing (ex: you can travel instantly from one city to another, rather than have to manually ride the roads all the time). The only complaint I had was the controls, which could be overly sensitive and frustrating at times. Once you get that under control, though, the game's fantastic.
A great game that showed what potential the series had by covering up all the first game's potholes. Buy now.

Pretty sure it is the non-existent version, as there are no listings for it. The game is pretty amazing. They added and fixed so much, once you play it, it is damn near impossible to go back to the first game. Dark Sector is very awesome, it would make a great Captain America game. It got no where near the credit it deserves. And Mercenaries 2 is a hell of a lot of fun, both are well worth that price and more.

It amazes me how ACII is gameplay-wise one of the best games I've ever played despite having a terrible, groan-worthy story.

AC2 is a very good game. Strangely, despite really liking the first, despite its many flaws, I didn't love the second one like I thought I would. Enjoyable though.

I didn't like playing the first one much. The second one rocks.

It was so much further above and beyond the 1st Assassin's Creed (which I also have) that it's unbelievable. I think one of the top 3 best games of 2009. Those glyph puzzles will have you guessing all throughout the game, and possibly sleeping with the lights on.

Hell yes. It is worth it. Plus, you might want to brush up on Ezio(the assassin in the game), as there is a new Assassin's Creed game this fall, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which continues Ezio's story. It also has online mutliplayer.

I never played the first (I heard the same things you reported though), but I thought the second was a blast. And I don't really recommend waiting for the DLC-release. They do add two chapters, I think, that were removed from the game due to time constrain, but either way you'll be waiting a while and paying an extra $10 likely for it and the game is playable without it.
Oh, and Dark Sector is pretty good for that price if you're into the Gears of War style third person "squat and shot". Oddly, I got way farther in Dark Sector than I did Gears due to the story being more interesting to me. I dropped $8 on a used copy two years ago at a yardsale and didn't regret it at that price.

Not only were quite a few of them pretty chilling (just the way they were presented inspired that reaction). But the final video that completly plays when you solve them all may be one of the biggest "holy s***" moments in recent video game history. But I'm not going to spoil it here, YAK MAN. You'll have to play the game yourself.

It's a fantastic game that improves upon the first game (which I enjoyed, but definitely agree with your complaints of its monotony) significantly in just about every way. There's also a lot more humor in the game, as Ezio is a really fun protagonist character. Much more fun than Mr. Srs Altair.

Hell yes! AC2 is amazing!! The gameplay, story, graphics, everything. BUT it is a very creepy game with all the conspiracy stuff if you know what all the symbolism means. But its my GOTY.
