What are some of the more surprising crowd reactions you've heard?
"Naughty!"

At Wrestlemania 22, I was somewhat surprised at the strength of the negative reactions that Cena received, but they were kind of expected at the same time. That doesn't mean that it wasn't hilarious.

I`m a big fan of CM Punk, but I was surprised when the crowd popped bigger for him than for DX at Survivor Series 2006. I didn`t think the majority of WWE fans cared more about him than Shawn or HHH.
Oh and the ECW fans going nuts for Sid was surreal back in the day!

I am always amazed by the number of people who cheer for John Cena. The man has almost no talent and yet people love him. I just don't get it.

The reaction for Hogan at WM18 needs to be mentioned immediately, of course.
Another that comes to mind is at Survivor Series 1997, when the crowd was ruthlessly going after Billy Gunn in the opening match. The Outlaws had only been together a few weeks, and he was getting a deafening "Faggot!" chant for some reason. Other than HBK, I don't think anyone else took so much abuse in Montreal that night.

I was surprised when the nWo first started getting face pops. Even when they were taking out the top babyfaces, there were often chants of "nWo."

Hogan at WrestleMania in Montreal vs. the Rock
I think there was only one time before that, that Hogan got a crowd pop. I think everyone noticed the magic and how great it was to be there. I just did not see any of it coming.

Greg Valentine got a big surge during the HOF ceremony at WM20. That was old-school recognition right there. Even the GI Joe reference by Mean Gene for Slaughter didn't get as big a pop as Greg's.
And I'll never forget Crash's "Thank God you interfered and ended this" pop at KOTR 2000 in Boston, when he stopped that Patterson/Brisco match atrocity and won the Hardcore title back.

We want Sid!" ;D Definitely came out of left field. Another one that I forgot was Viscera getting "Let's go Mabel" chants on that Raw at MSG in 2005 where Lita got the "You screwed Matt" chants. Definitely surprised by that one too.

That was a great one. One thing that always surprises me, and warms my heart as I may be the world`s biggest Piper fan, is the MASSIVE pop he gets whenever he turns up for a Piper`s Pit or whathaveyou, especially as a lot of fans there wouldn`t have seen much of him in his heyday, or even in WCW.

It caught on a tiny bit as there were some "let's go Mabel" chants at Backlash 2005 as well.

When Vince ran down the list of WCW wrestlers after he bought it out.. Buff freakin' Bagwell's pop was second only to Goldberg.
That's including the names of Hogan, Flair, Sting etc...

I'm gonna have to go with the Goldberg/Brock match. The match itself sucked, but it was entertaining as hell from a crowd point of view. Didn't they start chanting for Hogan at one point?

When I saw Raw in Grand Rapids people started to chant TNA. And they were chanting while Triple H was getting beat up by Umaga and Orton.

I was live at the Royal Rumble this year and was shocked at the negative response Rey Mysterio Recieved. Big time Heat.

What about Austin's surprising face turn after WM 13? Didn't they want Bret to be the face and Austin the heel? I'm not sure, but some people refer to that as the rise of the anti-hero and the attitude era.

I'm not sure, but some people refer to that as the rise of the anti-hero and the attitude era. Not quite, as in the weeks and months leading into Mania they were dropping lots of hints that Bret would be turning heel. It wasn't quite that surprising, but still great nonetheless as that match saved Mania from being in the same territory as WM11.

taker gets a decent pop when he beats hogan at SS 91 foe the belt. wasnt used to seeing heels get positive reactions in the WWF. not earth shaking, but fairly surprising at the time.
