Don't forget about the whole Armstrong family Tex Slasinger(?) and Shanghai Pierce I'm anxiously awaiting the day Joey Maggs becomes the jobber of the week.

Although they predate WCW a bit, The ultimate jobbers were the Mulkeys. Could you seriously look at those guys and think: "Yeah. I think these guys can take the Russians."

I marked for Tex Slazenger & Shanghai Pierce. I remember that there were fans at ringside that always used to heckle them. They would go "OOOOOOH!" whenever they did any kind of move (which normally consisted of only punching and elbows).

Although they predate WCW a bit, The ultimate jobbers were the Mulkeys. Could you seriously look at those guys and think: "Yeah. I think these guys can take the Russians." I think the joke was they looked like Ric Flair, so whoever wrestled them was pretending they were the Nature Boy. I loved those guys. When Jim Cornette brought out those Galaxians and the Mulkeys beat them for their first known win on TV, I went nuts. The Mulkeys were always wrestling the Horsemen in tag matches, put over the Anderson-style of wearing the arm down. As for Rocky King, it seemed like he was always wrestling Nikita Koloff, because he sold that Russian Sickle (clothesline) like he was dead. Talk about wrestling the proverbial broomstick...I've seen better physiques on a broomstick. Nelson Royal and Denny Brown were other jobbers...even though they held the NWA Jr. Hvywt title. They had one of the more interesting title belts around - it had a three-pronged crown on it - but they always lost on TV. Way to make your title worth something, guys. Denny Brown looked like Bob Backlund, while Nelson Royal was 156 years old and looked a bit like Dominic Denucci and Killer Kowalski mixed together - with a little Dory Funk Jr thrown in for good measure. There was Pat Rose, who also did jobs for Smoky Mountain (and is actually part of WWE's "Where Are They Now" bit on the website). Nelson Cruz, who lost to everybody (I just remembered his name). Italian Stallion was another favorite. You're telling me a big guy like that can't get an occassional win?

I met a guy at an ECW show in Gainesville, GA who said he used to be a WCW jobber. He said WCW would call him up and he'd work 2 or 3 matches a night at the TV tapings. He said he was happy just to get on TV. Oh and some of my favorites not mentioned yet:
Fred Avery (one of the hairiest backs in wrestling history) Kenny Kendall Rip Rogers "Slick" Chick Donovan Morgus The Maniac (anyone know what happened to him?) Dino Casanova and Romeo Valentino Mike Thor

Hardbody Harrison Roadblock Bunkhouse Buck and Dirty Dick Slater (however I think they were in PPV matches) Buck and Slater were World Tag champs, and were involved in high-profile feuds with Harlem Heat, the Nasty Boys, and Dusty and Dustin Rhodes. If memory serves, they even feuded briefly with the Horsemen as part of Col. Parker's Stud Stable. I really don't think you can classify them as jobbers. I might also add that Slater was a pretty major solo star during the Crockett era - having a pretty lengthy run with the U.S. title, and even getting the occasional World title shot.

Personally I always felt that the York Foundation was one of the best "stables" of Jobbers to the Stars that had ever been put together.

As I'm watching some of the older WCW/NWA stuff, Rocky King didn't have a bad physique actually. A bit on the thin side, but not a stick figure or anything. He'd also become the Freebirds roadie in 1990 as "Little Richard Marley". Also, was a member (I think) of Sting's face group called the Dudes with Attitudes. I also liked the Italian Stallion, should've got at least a win or two, but I guess he didn't mind as he probably got decent pay.

I read in an Apter mag that The Italian Stallion and George South ran their own fed in West Virginia for awhile. They went to schools and did shows and talked to the kids about not doing drugs.
Brad Armstrong is a guy they loved so much, they'd frequently job two or three times in one night. Once as himself, and then under a mask the rest of the night.

WCW jobbers were the height of the breed, and while there were plenty of mulleted albinos there were also some Power Plant guys who looked credible. One of my favorites had to be Johnny Boone (Bobby Hennan: "He can finally get the tooth he wanted") who seemlessly became a referee with no explanation whatsoever.

PWF was actually based here in upstate South Carolina. Italian Stallion was the booker. They ran shows that featured many WCW jobbers.

For those of you that get WWE 24/7, this week's episode of World Championship Wrestling features both Rocky King and the Italian Stallion getting victories over lesser jobbers. Awesome stuff!
(By the way, it also features two nearly twenty minute title matches - Magnum TA and Ole Anderson having a technical masterpiece for the U.S. title, and Ric Flair and Ronnie Garvin stiffing the crap out of each other over the World title.)
