..If Lex (in that video) was a young up-and-comer in the indys or somewhere who no-one heard of/cared about rather than a washed up former main event WWF/WCW veteran? I mean, wouldn't it have made any difference? (that promo is still so darn funny to me) *waits for it*

It's funny regardless but if it was an unknown indy Lex then I doubt it'd be as popular.

Of course not. With Lex, it's a former WWF MAIN EVENTER, someone who you expect to be really good at what he does, but instead he turns into a botch machine, it says a lot for the state of the product then, and is then percieved as humor, as Luger, in hindsight, wasn't as good as he was pushed as. With random indy guys, who the hell cares, it's just some indy guy, 99 percent of us have never heard and/or cared about him either.

On a related note, does anyone else think during that whole IT'S NOT HOT!!! skit, erm documentry, (what was that supposed to be, anyways, did the WCW really have a camera crew in place in Parts Unknown at the request of Taskmaster) becomes more entertaining when you wonder "Gosh, I can't belive Nancy left HIM for Beniot."

If it had been an established face, I think it would've worked better. (Remember - Luger had been a heel for 6 months or so...and suddenly he comes out, bodyslams Yokozuna, and is Mr. USAUSAUSA!)
But even back then, when I had no idea was a face or heel or kayfabe was, I knew that Luger's push was to fill the Hogan void. And I never really liked him for that specific reason: Lex Luger was NOT Hulk Hogan.

I used to hear rumors Sullivan was even more abusive than Benoit turned out to be, well until he -- well -- you know . . .

I don't agree that the fans say through it.........but management clearly wasn't impressed. I mean, he went from wrestling for the title at WM10 to wrestling the Harris Twins/Blu Brothers in the curtain jerker match at WM11.

I've gotta go with those who say it was just too sudden. Not Lex's fault, just Vince hitting the panic button too quick after falling out with Hogan. Imho, it would've worked a lot better if say a week or two prior to that on Raw or similar they'd had Lex teaming with Yoko in a tag match against, I dunno, let's say Bret and Perfect seeing as Lex was feuding with both of them at the time plus Bret had lost the title to Yoko back at WM9. Lex botches a move, costs the team the match and gets Banzai'd by Yoko and taken out on a stretcher. Two weeks later, on the launchpad, out he comes, gets the slam, really gets some heat on the feud, perfect set up for Summerslam. Anyway, just my thoughts on the matter.
