the Survivor Series Showdown from this year was quite good too. Monsoon in Heenan in Studio A while Roddy Piper is in Studio B making fun of Heenan the whole time. Plus you get a rare singles match for Smash taking on Ted DiBiase.

I haven't seen this PPV in years, but remembered liking it. The Survivor Series used to be such a cool PPV. It was always, it never mattered who was eliminated or not, you didn't care. At 90 Perfect pinned IC champ Texas Tornado clean and no one says a word. Nowawdays, there'd be an IWC riot about the IC champ being pinned clean.

This and the 2004 Survivor Series' are the only two I haven't seen. Although that will change because I just bough 04 on DVD but haven't watched it yet.

This is my favorite ppv of all time. I rented it so much when I was little that I eventually just got my own copy. I've long since lost it or taped over it or something, but I must've watched it thirty or forty times.
The whole Survivor Series concept was just so great because it had so many random teams of guys who normally wouldn't be together. Every guy had a feud. I wish they'd go back to this format for every match at Survivor Series. They have the guys and it's a good way to get everyone involved.

My favorite Survivor Series. So much cheesy goodness that holds up quite well today.

And I neglected to mention that Rick Rude's tights absolutely ruled. He had the faces of his team on the front and the faces of Piper's team on the back. "The pants on my behind are telling a tale Which team will perish and which will prevail". Rude has to be considered in the top ten for best outfits. I think at this ppv he had his team on the front, they showed all four portraits amongst the clouds I think, and on the back he had all four of the Rowdies portraits with tombestones behind them.

Survivor Series 1989 is an important PPV for a number of reasons. 1 - it summarizes the peak period of WWF in the '80s. 2 - it summarizes the peak of the cartoon period 3 - It highlights the characters in every match. I believe this would be the definitive video to introduce someone to wrestling of that period. So if you haven't already, you should make Survivor Series 1989 part of your Thanksgiving Night Tradition

We didn't have any TV to speak of, but my folks shelled out for a VCR (hot shit in them days, it was the size of a small car [not really], but awesome as hell). We rented tapes a lot. I rented one Inspector Gadget tape so much, the video finally took pity on my parents and made me a copy. Wish I still had it.

Loved this ppv - I used to have the video but foolishly sold it in my teenage years. Thanks to the joy of Tagged Classics I now own it again. Splendid.

For everybody who loved the "I'm thankful for..." introduction, how do you think that would go today?

For everybody who loved the "I'm thankful for..." introduction, how do you think that would go today? John Cena: "I'm thankful for unrealistic pushes." Steve Austin (who, you know, will be wheeled in so he can steal the spotlight again): "I'm thankful for being a woman-abusing drunk, and being written as a hero for it." Stephanie and Shane McMahon: "We're thankful for nepotism." HHH: "I'm thankful for nepotism, too."

He wasn't even supposed to be on the show at all (he was a last-minute sub for Akeem), so I think they realized he didn't belong in this style of match. Once he was in there, though, it was just consistent booking to again have him get into a fight with his teammates and walk out. "Never trust Bad News." I suppose they could have had him get pinned as a result of one of his partners screwing up, but the fallout would have been the same. Yeah I realise he was a substitute for Akeem (it's another change of voice tone in the rundown at the beginning) but I just don't get why Bad News had to be eliminated in exactly the same way twice in a row. He wasn't exactly a Title contender and he didn't need protecting so why not just pin him? Or at least get him DQ'ed or something like that. I actually marked like hell when Bad News walked out for a 2nd time. I love heels, and Bad News Brown was a heel's heel. It was funny when he walked out the first time, but to do it again? Classic. He was just that much of a bastard.

Every now and then I get huge urges to watch old "gimmick" PPVs (the old Survivor Series & Royal Rumbles). I love Survivor Series '87, '88, '89 & '90. Every match had heat and every match had a purpose.
I miss the old tag team survivor series matches. How they ever fit so much talent in one ring is beyond me. It was awesome. You know, tag teams with an actual name, and the same ring gear and a team finisher.

Besides the Hart Family and even then, everyone was in black, but Bret who was in pink.

I always wondered what it must have been like to see those matches from ringside, floor level. With 18 guys on the apron, it'd be a pain to see what was happening with the other 2 in the ring.

I love this show, it's one of my all time favorites.
I've long heard it mentioned that Bad News at some point made the comment that "No self-respecting black man would team with a cop and dude called Honky", but I've never seen/heard it.

it's a great PPV cause I was there and was there front row. In fact you can see me almost get crushed by Andre "The Giant" when he was staggering around ring side. Yep that's me in the nice British Knights Track Suit. Man I miss those days. And ummm yeah, that was my hand that waved right in front of the camera when Savage was being dragged to the back. Sorry about that!
