I actually really loved this - reminds me of a really confused era in WWF history, one that was a whole lot of fun. Plus, Aztec Jeff Jarrett was pretty cool.

Add me to the "yay" column. It's the only period of time I actually paid attention to Dan Severn matches.
To give you some insight on how much McMahon thought of it, there was a story that went around at the time (and I have NO idea whether or not it's true) that he was asked by a fan how it felt to finally have Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson in the WWF, to which he allegedly replied "Who?"

It wasn't a bad idea, just poorly executed. The major problem was manpower on behalf of the NWA.

a great idea but a complete disaster ....a common theme among wwe history...
anyways the nwa wrestlers were a beer belly barry wyndam, a young jobber in jbl, the Goldy Oldies Express and the two jobbers holly and gunn...severn was horribly used and basically lumbered to the ring and would come in the ring take off his jacket and do nothing (if used correctly he could of been a star and jarrett. uggg
btw whats with aztec jarrett..whats this aztec all about. cant remember.
also someone mentioned the New ME v RR Express wrestled each other..werent they both heels or was it a nwa sanction match for the tag team title..and anyways didnt corrnett manage both teams

The R&R's eventually broke away from the NWA and turned face so that's why they ended up feuding with the Midnights. Not sure how it happened though.

Jim Cornette basically cut a promo in the ring accompanied by the R&R Express. He basically said he was tired of getting his ass kicked (or something like that) and he blamed the R&R Express for that and he was gonna bring in a new team that would deliver the goods. He then introduced the new Midnight Express.

Here's what happened (btw Bradshaw was NOT a part of the NWA)
On the March 17, 1998 edition of Raw The Headbangers had a 3-on-2 Handicap match against the Rock n Rolls & Jim Cornette. Cornette refused to tag in, but was eventually dragged into the match. Anyway the New ME debuted and beat up the Headbangers.
Cornette gave a promo saying too many people were putting their hands on him and it was the R & R's falt, which led to the New ME beating up the R & R's.

It was different, I'll give you that. But sometimes, different aint always good. This entire angle sucked.

Yes he did, and that ppv featured the greatest non title main event in ppv history. I still love watching the Unsanctioned 8-Man Tag. I don't care if Savio was Shawn's replacement. Savio was the only guy that made sense to be inserted in the match.

Meh, I wasn't a big fan of the angle itself. I like Dan Severn, but you could tell the WWF didn't have their hearts into it the entire time.

I was REALLY excited when it first was announced. But it was a complete bust. I remember the Headbangers winning the tag titles and Double J winning the North american Title(Had the same design as the old IC belt) but I think it was just like Vince said about Bischoff,He wanted his old enemy working for him. Cause the WWF(E) killed the territories of the NWA.

I just had a flashback. When you mentioned leaving the room during the NWA matches. Back in early 98 Barry Windham was on and he was facing the Undertaker. Before the guys made their way to the ring I left the room for 5 minutes tops. When I came back they were on the next match. Im guessing Taker squashed windham easily. That's what I remember about the NWA matches, the one's I saw anyway. If you leave the tv for even three minutes the segment is over. How was it supposed to succeed with crap booking like that?

I honestly dont think it was EVER supposed to succeed. I certainly dont know what Vince was thinking but if he wants to PUSH an idea on us, he certainly knows how. It was doomed from the drawing board. Most "New School" fans KNEW nothing of the Rock n Roll Express, hell they KNEW nothing (or perhaps other than what WCW claimed) about the NWA.

That was at the very end of the NWA angle. I think this match was the same night as Severn turning on Cornette. I think their last match as a group was Windham being squashed by Vader in the weeks leading up to Over Da Edge.

The New Midnights stuck around quite a while after the NWA as a faction had disbanded. Jarrett was with Tennesee Lee by the time WM14 rolled around, the R&R's were faces again and only Windham and the Midnights were with Cornette. But ME were around until the Brawl 4 All from what I recall.

I loved it and anything else that involved Ricky Morton being on my television, even if he was losing.
