WWE HALL OF FAMER, FORMER WWF AND AWA WOMEN'S CHAMPION SHERRI MARTEL PASSES AWAY by Mike Johnson @ 3:12:00 PM on 6/15/2007
PWInsider.com is sorry to report the passing of WWE Hall of Famer Sherri Martel Martel, a former WWF and AWA Women's champion, is probably best known in her role of the best female heel managers during her run in the 1990s with the WWF, working with Shawn Michaels, Ted DiBiase, and Randy Savage, among others. Moving to WCW in 1994, she worked on top with Ric Flair and The Harlem Heat tag team.
Martel was inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame in Chicago during Wrestlemania 21 weekend and still made semi-regular appearances at conventions and media events. Jakks Pacific had just released a Classic Superstars action figure in her honor.
Martel was only 49 years old.
On behalf of everyone involved with PWInsider.com, I'd like to share our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Sherri Martel.

I know I am shocked by this news.

My two favorite female managers are now gone. Miss Elizabeth and now "Sensational" Sherri Martel.
RIP Sherri

Shocked and sad is an understatement. As much as I loved Savage's championship run with Liz, his time with Sherri was equally classic. Mach and Sherri together yelling, screaming, and grunting in promos....good times!
RIP Sherri.

edit: Man, I forgot to mention her time as Peggy Sue. She made the Honky Tonk Man IC reign even better. Loved that stuff.

This is awful. 2007 has got to be an all-time record in terms of the number of beloved wrestlers who've died within the space of 365 days.

my first memories of Sherri are from the old AWA. you could just tell that she would make a mark on the business and she certainly did. i'd have to honestly say she was my favorite female performer and will always be. R.I.P. Sherri. you may be gone but in my heart you will never ever be forgotten.

We had the other half of the PE, Ernie Ladd, Bab Bam, and now Sherri. Have a beer for all of them ,but I can't (damn age!).
