I went through several stages of being a Wrestling fan. The first, and most intense, was when I started watching wrestling in 1988, until it slowly faded away from about 1993 to 1995. By the 1995, I never watched wrestling anymore. If I was channel surfing, and I saw WCW, I'd watch it for a bit, then watch something else.
In the summer of 1997, Stage 2 started when I found myself with cable for the first time in a long while, and I lived near a number of other people who were wrestling fans. I got back into it with more vigor than before, and by October, I was watching Raw and Nitro every week, and always hoping to find Wrestling on onther days too.(I found WCW Saturday Night and WCW Worldwide). I got into wrestling with a level of, for lack of a better word, obsessiveness than any of my freinds. Memorization of Wrestling History, especially the parts I'd witnessed back in the late 80's and early 90's, came extreemely easy to me, as did learning the various maneuvers used by the different wrestlers. As I was a true mark who thought it was totally real, and as I wanted to become a professional wrestler, I would think up strategies for beating some of the wrestlers I watched on TV, should I ever face them. I co-started what may have been the only backard wrestling wrestling group in which the wrestlers really wrestled with each other, using the same rules as WWF and WCW(sans striking and dangerous stuff like piledrivers). I put wagers on pro wrestling matches. I loved it. This lasted until june or so of 2000, when I suddenly lost the ability to watch for reasons I won't get into.
The third phase started in mid-2001, with the Invasion. It wasn't that in particular that brought me back, it was just what was happening at the time. I didn't have cable, for the most part, but I would often go to a freind's house to watch. This lasted until it faded away in about 2004, when my freinds who I watched with most of the time moved out of town.
I'm kind of between phases now. I'll watch wrestling if I find it on, but I no longer make it a point to watch. I prefer old stuff to the current product, and I'll watch from my modest tape library quite a bit(I Don't own any wrestling DVD's. It just seems to work better on tape). I still backyard wrestle occasionally(Anyone wanna see any of my matches? Most suck, but one or two are decent), though it's always worked these days. (No one wants to wrestle with me legit, because I'm quite large and I have alot of experience) I also still wish to be a professional one day, and as soon as I can get the money to do so and in good enough shape for it(Both are quite difficult for me), I'm going for a tryout at Harley Race's wrestling acedemy.
Did any of the other crappers go through similiar stages?
