This sounded like a fine angle, why did people hate it so?

I missed it, but it was apparently racist, since instead of having faces and heels, people were supposed to cheer their race and boo the others.

i loved the gang warz. the only stable i didn't like was savio's, simply because even tho i liked savio as a heel, i didn't care for the rest of the guys in the stable.

I think it was less the racist tendencies and more the fact that each stable was made up midcarders that no one cared about.

Except for the "gang" leaders (Faarooq, Savio, Crush), Rocky Maivia and arguably Kama, everyone else was meaningless to WWF fans. The good performers in the groups (Miguel Perez, D'Lo) were mostly used as window dressing. Then they added four more people no one had ever heard of when they got the Truth Commission involved.

I'm not black so that takes out the Nation. I'm not purto Rician so that Takes out Barwquas (Sp?). I'm not a biker so that takes out DOA and I'm from another country to like the Truth Commission. I'm so lost.

I can't say I didn't like the Truth Commission theme song. I believe it was like marching army noise.

Yeah, I can't see why you would root for biker trash or South African war criminals just because they were white too. Or why anyone would root for Savio Vega.
The real reason is the gang wars were pointless. Basically Crush and Savio got their buddies together to beat down the Nation. Repeat. It had no story beyond that. The angle ended at survivor series, when Crush left and the teams became jobbers and heels.
Ahmed Johnson was also a member, but was kicked out for being "Too White." He teamed up later with the Legion of Doom and Ken Shamrock, as sort of a counter nation force.
You also have to remember that Factions were a big thing in 1997. You had the Hart Foundation, The nWo, Degeneration X, The Nation of Domination et al. That the idea could work again, wasn't a bad one, it's just factions need a good leader. Savio Vega, Crush, and the Jackyl weren't up to it.

It's kinda hard not to when RD really just shuffles around 15-20 old inductions. I've been visiting for about a year now in about 5 months I noticed the Classic Crap was just rehashing the ones posted like a month ago.

Actually, DOA and Los Boricuas were formed because Crush and Savio were kicked out of the Nation after WM13 and decided to form their own factions but the only war seemed to be Boricuas v. DOA which had wrestlers no one cared about in the least and the Nation became a pissing contest between the Rock and Farooq. Was it racist? According to the true definition, no.

Rockhound: Thanks, I forgot to include the first half of the story. I agree with you on the definition of racism. It's a word thrown about too often when it means something very specifically, which is an ideology that belives that differences in moral, mental and physical capacity amoung groups humans are biologically determined, and can be treated as inferior in kind.
