RD, I can't believe you didn't think of a major plot point that could've been added to that angle.
After weeks and weeks of Jamie Noble asking if the baby was his and Nidia continuing to say yes repeatedly. It could then be revealed that the father of Nidia's child was actually Jamie's cousin Nunzio.
Of course that would be way too much continuity for anyone's liking.

I prefer the swerve where the Italian father turns out to be me. No continutity needed
