Ok, so I just finished watching Summerslam 88 and am in the middle of SS 89 and I had a few questions that have come up in my head.
1) Why the hell did Jesse Ventura switch the position of the tag ropes in the main event? I always noticed the guys in the ring saying stuff to him and pointing but never could figure out why the hell he did what he did.
2) Heenan not showing up to manage Hercules. Was this ever used to allude to the reason for Heenan selling him to DiBiase a month later or did they just gloss over it completely?
3) In 89, was the tension between Roddy Piper and Rick Rude talked about on the WWF syndicated programs leading up to Summerslam? The only reason I knew Piper had a reason for coming out during the IC match is because I happened to be visiting my grandparents at the time and actually got to watch Prime Time Wrestling for a change. In NY we didn't have cable. I just don't remember if it was shown on Superstars or Wrestling Challenge.
I'm gonna keep adding to this when questions pop in my head. Everyone should do the same too. These are always fun.

Great questions!!!!!! I've actually wondered about every one of them myself! So in other words, I don't have an answer, and I'm upping my post count...
Glad to check in and see when someone actually DOES answer you.
(GREAT PPV's by the way)

My take on Jesse Ventura was that he switched the tag ropes purely to show he was in charge. He kept saying for weeks that he was the only man capable of reffing the match, he just overplayed by changing the tag ropes cause he could. As for Heenan not accompanying Herc, he wasn't out there for Rude's match either was he? I think they were just making out he was too busy with the Mega Bucks to do anything else. Although considering he turned up to do commentary on the Bravo/Muraco match that kinda screws it up.

Remember when all the titles were defended at Summerslam?

Don't remember much from the '89 Summerslam, but I recall 88's had that big moment where Liz stripped her skirt for Andre and Dibiase. Everything up and until that point was a bust and super-boring. Except for the first match with The Bulldog's versus the Rogeau's. I kind of think back fondly on that one match in particular cuz the MSG crowd went nuts for the Bulldogs. And really, it was the Bulldogs' usual routines that somehow got amped up by the crowd's reactions . It's really inexplicable why they got the ovation that they did. The Rogeau's were pretty hated at the time, mind you. But if you go back and look at the tape, the Bulldog's got a better reception than the 'Mega Powers'. It was really kind of their last hurrah. They tried to start something with the tag champs-Demolition , but this was sort fo their last big effort before heading off to the lesser Stu Hart camp back at Stampede to later then break up. Maybe the crowd sensed that this was one of the last few times they'd see Dynamite and Daveyboy.
I think I remember some crap about Dusty searching for Sapphire his chubby girl in his stupid polka-dot gear employing the help of Hacksaw Jim Duggin. That's almost blocked from my head.
