Was he ever in any sort of important role other than playing one on television? Was he just an actor or did he have ties with wrestling or what? I didn't watch enough at the time to pay attention. Also, where is he today?
EDIT: Tunney.

From Obsessed with wrestling...
"Jack Tunney is the nephew of long-time Toronto Promotor Frank Tunney.. 1983: Jack Tunney took over the Toronto Promotion, and cut ties with Jim Crockett and aligned with Vince McMahon's WWF.. 1984: Jack Tunney sold control of the Toronto Booking office to Vince McMahon Jr, and became a member of Vince's administration.. September 1984: Jack Tunney became the on-air "President" of the WWF, but he was actually the WWF Promotor for Canadian tours.. ~~~This is the position that is currently taken by Carl Demarco.. July 12, 1995: WWF President Jack Tunney resigns and retires.. Janaury 24, 2004: Jack Tunney passes away at the age of 68 in Lindsay, Ontario.. "

Great announcement at Survivor Series '91 about Jake the Snake/Macho Man...
Terrible announcement at the beginning of the Royal Rumble '92 extravaganza for the title... Though I liked it when he said something like, "Thank you, Howard," to the Fink.

I liked Jack Tunney.
He was totally credible as a slightly awkward, stiff, corporate suit.
And because he rarely appeared and was rarely mentioned, when he actually DID appear or was mentioned, it conveyed the importance of whatever issue he was being called to mediate or rule upon.
Far better than the tired "Evil Abusive Boss/General Manager/Chairman".

It's been said, so I'll just say, Tunney ruled. He existed only when he was needed.......

I used to wonder why Tunney didn't crack down on the bad guys after they cheated to win.

Tunney was kind of a wild card. Sometimes he'd screw the heels, like DiBiase and Andre with their Hebner stunt, and sometimes he'd screw the faces, like Hogan after Tuesday in Texas.

I loved Tunney as a kid, and wish there was someone like him now. Now, when a "GM" or "Commissioner" or whatever they are called that day, makes an announcement or sets a match, people can argue about it. When Tunney did it (yes, kayfabe was alive, but still) it was final, written in stone, and no one questioned it. He wasn't there every week, but if he was, you knew something big was coming.

I miss Jack Tunney. Looking back, the idea of a "figure head" was pretty cool. When you saw him, you knew some s**t was about to go down. Id like to see them bring that idea back. Video appearences only........no live stick, no wrestling...........just like how Tunney did it. I think it "might" work.

I like the little to no air time of a power Figure because if they DO come on its "oh shit something is happening!!" now its "Bah, shut up and get off my TV"
