Edit...By request, this long, sappy, and semi-alcohol fueled thread has now been edited for the preservation of Wrestlecrap kayfabe.
Hey guys,
As most of you know, I've been away for a bit, and we've cancelled a few radio shows. RD spoke briefly about it a few weeks ago, and I tried my best to type this message a few days earlier, but I couldn't do it without getting sad and crying. But, I'm in a rare positive mood for this week....so for my friends on here who were wondering, here is my deal.... (really, really, really long read)
After battling numerous health issues this entire decade, my hero and my idol (no, not the Black Scorpion, Demolition Smash, or my gimmick unofficially adopted father/uncle...my funkle if you will ...former undisputed light-heavyweight champion, Dwight "Buzzsaw" Braxton .....as I've joked they all were on many occasion) ...my father, and the greatest guy I've known, Paul Ferguson passed away Monday morning. I'll try my best keep this rant short, but to me, he was more than a dad...he was my best friend. Whether it was playing video games (he owned at least 3 times as many as I did), playing sports in my youth, or offending my mother and sister with our mutual love of Troma movies, he was the coolest dad anyone could ask for.
Real fast story. He had a really rough year in 2005, but we had a moment I'll always treasure. I'll never forget the night we first rented the Troma movie, the Toxic Avenger in the mid-80's, disturbing the rest of the family in the process. Fast forward 21 years later, and thanks to Lloyd Kaufman, as well as Larry and the rest of the Troma editing department, they put my short film on the 21st Anniversary version of the Toxic Avenger. I never got to be the horror movie maker like I always said I would be as a kid, but to see his son on a Troma release of any kind made him proud, and put a glow and a smile on his face I'll never forget. I know some Troma guys visit the site, and if you read this, I just want to thank you all for a great memory you gave us.
A tougher sob than Stone Cold (and a bigger partier in his prime as well ) my dad fought emphysema, conjestive heart failure, diabetes, and asbestos exposure from his time serving the country, like no other man. I could only hope to be as strong as he was. I'll miss him forever. I'm a bit of a Rambo-style loner...no, I'm not going to go overseas and take out terrorists singlehandly....I just mean I take the word "friend" very seriously. While I have a bunch of people I enjoy being around that I refer to as an acquaintance, I can count my true friends I'd take a bullet for on one hand, no check that...four fingers...my dad, my grandfather, my childhood pal Corey from Revenge of The Scorpion, and good 'ol RD....and it pains me to know I've lost the best one.
One last thing, I want to thank my second family for a second.....all of you guys here, as well as the lurkers of the site. Whether you wished me well lately, or you're one of my loyal homeboys I chat with on a regular basis, or if you've simply emailed me and said you enjoyed something I said or wrote.....you guys have kept me going through my tough times the last two years. You guys rule...all of you. And the haters, you know who you are....the 20 year-old "wrestling radio hosts" who urinate themselves, the death threat senders who run homoerotic fan clubs of guys I profile as jobbers, and want to do me in.....I am the master of evil, the Slasher, Mr. Blade Braxton...I FEED on hate. I love your "nasty" emails. Keep the love coming!
And the last thing, I promise, with all the love being spread here's to my partners here....
Madison, the man I refer to as the "MC of Weirdness." I could only wish to be as great of a column writer as you are. Without the inspiration that your long-departed site provided - in terms of showcasing stuff that sucked, but wasn't truly Wrestlecrap - there would be no weekly JOTW column. May you go on to rule Marvel Comics (and start writing that Groot/Devil Dinosaur buddy comic that I've dreamed about for years!!)
Our pal John Tenta, who I had the great pleasure of speaking to on a few occasions. You have all of my prayers. I don't care what the doctors, or any chemo results say... we're gonna see you take that Wrestlemania Hall Of Fame speech sooner rather than later.
Can't forget about all the mods here. Too many great folks to mention all by name, but I've got one thing to say....I've enjoyed my briefs times hanging out with you all in the champagne room. Keep up the great, thankless job you do that makes this forum rule!!
To the Wrestlecrap OG I never met, Merle, thanks for getting this ball rolling. I could only wish to have partied with you and Deal, and to have been a part of the indy hijinks back in Indy back in the day. One thing, mang... do me a huge favor... you guys are chillin' way up in the sky, if you hear me, somehow get Ms. Elizabeth to pop in my old man...me and dad both had big crushes on Liz back in the day.
And last but not least, my true friend and the Darth Sideous to my Darth Maul (sorry Deal, the royalty check will be on the way), RD. I went from being an anonymous, loyal mark of yours, to being able to call you one of my best friends. Your friendship and words, well, you'll never know how much you've got me through the rough times. And also, until the day I die, I'll never fail to be amused by the fact that thousands of people spend 30 minutes every week, listening to what is basically an extension of our normal phone conversations. Whether it's chatting about Betsy Russell or Boo Berry, you guys are getting the real us... no gimmicks. I'll keep it short, but you are, and always wil be, 'da mang!
Once again, thank you all for the kind wishes. You all are great people. For those who have tried to contact me in 2005, and I never responded to...try me again, I had a hectic year. I enjoy every funny email I get. Trust me, I read them all, and 99% of them amused me. I look forward to what 2006 will bring. Despite the sadness it has brought me early on, my father wouldn't want anything less but for me to keep on 'Crappin. I will continue on on my slow, snail like crawl, to eventual co-world domination with RD!!! ;D
Happy New Year Crappers, it's gonna be a good one!! And for those of you still reading, thanks for taking the time to read my all-too-emotional, novel-like rant. After weeks of being sad, I finally felt happy enough to speak about things.
Take care... from your pal.... who needs no gimmick at this moment.... the real me...forever proud to call myself Paul Ferguson's son.....
TRF
aka "Blade Braxton" (P.S. - Dad, have Bloodsucking Freaks ready to roll for us when I see you next and we hang out once again.)
P.P.S. - now returning back to your regular kaybabe mode... but before I go, heres 5 things I demand you all to do in 2006....
1) Eat Boo Berry until you acheive total blue deficating powers and all the toilets in the US are backed up as a result of blue feces!!!
2) Come to the midwest, and watch a revived Blade Braxton destroy and then recreate the midwest independant wrestling scene as it currently stands.
3) Warning...shill mode. Even if you hate every single kind of music in the whole wide world... go support and buy my pal and ex-Misfits singer, Michale Graves new album. He deserves to rule the world, alongside me and RD. Michale, thanks for helping me get through life with your words and songs.
4) 2nd most important thing...keep on Crappin' with me RD, Madison, and Quake.
5) Most importantly, don't forget to urinate on all those long winded and boring radio talk show hosts who have already urinated themselves!!!!!!!
See you soon,
the worst radio host of all-time (proudly, BTW)
the Scourge of the IWC...
230 pounds of twisted steel and sex appeal...
the undisputed, undefeated, heavyweight haiku champion of the world...
the Slasher,
Blade Braxton
