Also, you have to remember that the first Star Wars movie came out in the 70's and was way ahead of its time. I mean besides Star Wars what did you have to keep a kid entertained? Most didn't have cable TV when the first Star Wars came out. I can't remember if i had cable for Empire Strikes Back. VCR's cost a thousand bucks. Playstation 2..hah..you were lucky if you were one of the few kids to have Pong. Lord of the Rings started in the new millenium. Plenty of things to keep a kid occupied besides movies. Every year there is a summer blockbuster competing for the dollars of today's youth. Not to mention ultra cool video games, text messages, internet blogging etc. In other words, no movie will ever dominate pop culture for today's youth(god i sound so old saying that) like Star Wars did because there is so much diversity in entertainment now. If you were a kid in 1977 you went and saw Star Wars over and over, or you helped your dad adjust the metal antenna on the roof during a lightning storm so you could watch ABC's wide world of sports.

I'm a big fan of both Star Wars and LotR, so when I say that side by side LotR blows Star Wars out of the water I'm not just hating. Star Wars, the first one, is a technical marvel and the perfect summer movie. Empire takes that and adds deep emotional resonance. From Jedi on to Clones, Star Wars becomes less about people and more "Look at what the Jedi can do!". Anakin, Obi Wan and Yoda aside, all the Jedi are interchangable. There's a galatic war threatening to tear the galaxy asunder, yet aside from hundreds of droids turned to parts and the Jedi Temple in flames no one outside the Jedi Order seems to be affected. Even in the opening fight in Sith when Grievous' ship is speeding into Coruscant, traffic was in full swing. Compare that to Edoras in The Two Towers. A nation of the fiercest warriors Mankind has and they look worn down from the constant warfare. The stakes always seem life or death, and not just for the main few but the world at large.

Star Wars 3 was pretty good, the visuals as always were amazing. The acting had something left to be desired, but it was the best of the 3 new movies. My favourite part was when Anakin put on the mask for the first time, my least favourite was Padme dying. Hopefully, they'll make another trilogy eventually NOT dircected by George Lucas.
