I was recently looking at WWE title Histories and iwaas looking at what lead up to Andre the Giant Becoming WWE champion. What i discoveredwas one of the worst storylines i have ever read about. During the match on SNME Adre went for the pin. Andre had Hogan on the mat for what would appear to be only a one count, but Earl kept counting. It appears that Ted Dibiase paid Andre a large sum of money to win the belt. Not a bad storyline until right about here. I t wasnt actualy Earl in the ring they say. they say that it was someone that Ted Dibiase payed to have plastic surgery to look like Earl. Ted Bought the belt Jack tunney vaccated the Belt and the Tournament at Wrestlemania 4 began. Hmmmmm...... Plastic Surgery. What the F***? Wretlecrap?

Earl was the referee for the match but everyone thought it was Dave as Dave had in the WWF for over a year at that point as Dave officiated the Steamboat/Savage classic.

I remember this..it was plastic surgery. If i remember correctly both versions of Hebner got into an argument and they were yelling at each other. I remember being heartbroken that Hogan wasnt champ anymore....

Andre was, but DiBiase (who Andre gave the belt to) wasn't.

They didn't really play it up on TV as plastic surgery, though. Too bad!

An evil twin angle may have made more sense. It was Hogan in a post-match "just lost the title" rant that states it was plastic surgery. After the interview Vince on commentray acts like coz Hogan said it that it was gospel and Jesse (how I love him) Ventura says something like, "Plastic surgery? Give me a break." Even better Hogan launches Dave (or Earl - whatever one it was) out of the ring over Dibiase and Virgil, who raise their hands to catch him (but miss) and he lands at Andre's feet. I love it when non-wrestlers take sick bumps. I always imagine them before hand being reassured back stage that they are working with pros and everything will be fine.
