#5) Wrestlemania VIII- This event manages to have no really horrid matches, although there are a few weak ones (8-man tag, tag title match, Owen/Skinner) and the Tatanka match and the Hogan match are only slightly better than that. The rest of the card is good to really good with the IC title and World title matches both being borderline classics, giving this event a high enough overall match quality average to make my top 5.
#4) Wrestlemania X - The best opener ever with a match that topped Steamboat/Savage as the best WM match ever (although Bret/Austin would slightly top it only a few years later). While the famous ladder match is also a 5-star classic, the opener is better if only because it's a hell of a lot harder to wow the crowd in a non-gimmick match. Everything else is solid except the Adam Bomb "match" but that's because it was a squash
#3) Wrestlemania XIX- I hadn't seen this one until recently. I went in expecting this to be yet another case of overhype, but boy was I surprised. The opener is good, the handicap match manages to be decent, the women's title match might just be the first women's match the WWF/WWE has put on that I'd say was very good. Tag title match is good, if a bit too short. HBK/Jericho is an easy 4-star match. Shame Jericho didn't get the win, but oh well. The pillow fight is a waste of time. Triple H/Booker T is EXTREMELY disappointing. A total bore and manages to be the worst true match on the card. The rest of the event is good, although it's lame that Rock needed 3 Rock Bottoms to beat Austin.
#2) Wrestlemania XVII (X-7)- The end of an era. It was all downhill from here, but at least they went out with a bang. The opener is surprisingly average. Jericho and Regal just didn't click. The 6-man is solid. The hardcore match was WAY better than I thought it'd be. Test/Eddie is solid and Angle/Benoit is very good, but with a lame ending. The women's title match is mercifully short. The McMahon match was another surprisingly good match. TLC was very good, but getting kinda stale by this point with the same teams become a safety feud for the WWF... The gimmick battle royal was horrible, match-wise. The entrances and hearing Heenan and Okerlund on commentary was classic, though. Shame the Gooker looked completely different and got eliminated immediately... and they should've busted out one of the Wm3/WM6 carts for the Shiek. The last two matches were both good, but the ending to the main event was lame. Not the heel turn so much as the several minutes of interference. It was too similar to the ending of WM 16 for one thing and it killed any suspense the match had.
#1) Wrestlemania XIV- The beginning of an era. The only WM that can say it didn't have a single bad match. The battle royal is the weakest match, but it's pretty good, especially if you compare it to other battle royals. Taka match is good, but a bit spotty. Triple H/Owen is great. It sucks that this feud was the precursor to Triple H vs. Jericho in that Owen never really got a win. The mixed tag was very good, far better than I would've expected. The IC title match is solid, if underwhelming. Even though I loved this IC title reign for the Rock, not giving the title to Shamrock at the Rumble and then not giving it to him here really hurt him and when they finally did let him beat the Rock at the KOTR, it managed to seem like the wrong decision yet again. The tag title match is fun. Kane/UT was a really good big man match that's only a bit behind the UT/Diesel match in quality. The main event is an east 4-star match. I don't see why it gets bagged on by people. It's decently long and considering the shape HBK was in, manages to be very good and build some suspense thanks to the whole Mike Tyson being involved even though it was obvious Austin would win somehow.
