Day 17: GoldustEvery day, I'll post a wrestler who has never won the WWE Championship and we'll vote on whether or not he deserved to win the belt during his time there. When we run out of interesting people, we'll have a battle royal with all of the people who got more yes votes than no votes! In your voting, consider whether or not it would have been wise to put the belt on the worker at the time of his run, not just whether or not he was a worthy champion. For example, Jake Roberts would have no doubt been a great champion, but was it smart to put the belt on him at the height of Hulkamania? That's up for discussion. Past Results:-Day 1: Mr. Perfect (Yes: 24, No: 11) -Day 2: Raven (Yes: 6, No: 18) -Day 3: Razor Ramon (Yes: 15, No: 14) -Day 4: The Hurricane (Yes: 3, No: 24) -Day 5: Dusty Rhodes (Yes: 5, No: 14) -Day 6: Brian Pillman (Yes: 5, No: 19) -Day 7: Ken Shamrock (Yes: 15, No: 8) -Day 8: Kerry Von Eric (Yes: 4, No: 12) -Day 9: Paul Orndorff (Yes: 8, No: 10) -Day 10: Jimmy Snuka (Yes: 4, No: 15) -Day 11: Matt Hardy (Yes: 15, No: 13) -Day 12: Ted Dibiase (Yes: 27, No: 1) -Day 13: British Bulldog (Yes: 9, No: 7) -Day 14: Lex Luger (Yes: 15, No: 6) -Day 15: Farooq (Yes: 4, No: 12) -Day 16: Earthquake (Yes: 4, No: 15)

Call me crazy, but I would buy him as a short term champion in the 1990's. If it was a short hold.

I will say no.
He has the athleticism, charisma, the moves to be a threat and he's got good mic skills but with the way he was booked, most of the time as a comedy character who was looked upon as just weird instead of weird yet dangerous, it would seem that he was not favored by management anyway. Imo that hurt his chances at being considered a serious contender for the fans to accept as world champ since wrestlers (in kayfabe) were not taking him very seriously. So I feel it would of been out of place for him to be covered in more gold.
Even with this new PG format, I'm not sure that a toned down Goldust would be a good face for the company when I consider the other options.

MAYBE a transitional reign, but other than that, no.

I think that during the 95/96 period he would have passed as champion. He was really edgy back then, and WWF needed to shake things up and attract a little attention.

Big mark for Goldust, but I voted no for exactly these reasons. Unfortunately having such an out-there character as world champion would have been suicide for the WWF. Think about it, the WCW is doing big business with the nWo as their centrepoint, while in the WWF the focus is on a big gold pervert. It wouldn't have worked.
