And there were 2 world champs and a congested roster, who would have been champ back then that wasn't in real life?
IMO, Chris Jericho would've gotten it sooner, Kurt would have gotten a couple more runs at that time, Benoit would have gotten one, Eddie would've gotten a run, Edge would have been champion, and I think Test, Billy Gunn and Val Venis would've gotten runs.
Why you ask? If nowadays was like back then, Sheamus and Jack Swagger wouldn't have gotten past IC status, IMO. It's just the 2 championship that neccesitate this. IMO, Billy Gunn and Val Venis are around their level. Heat wise,I mean. I also don't think Punk or Rey would have been champion.

I think Test, Billy Gunn and Val Venis . REALLY?! If Test would have debuted last year, he would've been champion as quickly as Sheamus was. Wasn't Billy Gunn one of Vince's pets? He got an IC run out of nowhere. Venis might be a stretch but if JBL got the belt, Gunn sure had a chance.

I dont agree on Test whatsoever. Test was never pushed that hard once they got him out of the way after the angle with Steph and the McMahon/Helmsley era started. The ECW thing was essentially a mid-card deal when he was there, hell it remained a mid-card deal throughout the entire WWECW existence.
Billy Gunn was an upper mid-carder and barely sniffed the main event.
JBL had a KILLER gimmick. He didnt win the belt as Bradshaw or any major singles titles for the most part with that gimmick. JBL didnt exist in 2000-2001.
Val was a joke gimmick. There was no way a quasi-porn star would've held the main championship. Maybe as Morley and/if they gave him a decent push, but not as Val Venis.

Rikishi or Billy Gunn would have been a WHC based off Gunn got the 1999 King of the Ring which they only real gave to guys they wanted to push and Rikishi's push in late 2000 were he was in the who ran over Austin angle and was a part of the 6 man hell in a cell for the title. Also I think that guys like Beniot, Eddie, Edge, Christian, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, and Guerro would have gotten title pushes a lot sooner then they did.

If the environment was like it is NOW. Not back then. And I was talking about Val Venis's serious/RTC gimmick of late 2000-2001. If Sheamus and Jack Swagger were around back then, they would be like Test and Billy Gunn based on overness alone.

^Not long enough to count. Test was supposed to be WCW Champion from what I heard. I said 2000-2001 not 2001-2002.

Val Venis may have been on the cusp of being a main eventer, but I doubt he would have received a a world title. I think he would be a present day Chris Jericho except without ever holding a title or late 2007- early 2008 Jeff Hardy.
Billy Gunn has always floundered as a singles wrestler. His greatest success was winning KOTR 1999 and feuding briefly with The Rock. He did not do much after that by himself.

My logic may have been a TEENSY bit flawed but the point was nowadays there is more leeway on who is given a world title that there was 10 years ago. You had to be special, now they just give it to random people (seemingly).

Someone you guys forgot: Rikishi. Either as a face, or as a BAD BAD MAN.

You have to take into account that the roster is much thinner today. You can't just plop Sheamus back then and say he would have been a midcarder. When Sheamus won the WWE title, he was maybe the #1 or #2 heel in the company. Who was the #1 and #2 heels in the company in 2000-2001 - HHH and Kurt Angle? That's your comparison. It may be strange to compare Sheamus and Swagger to HHH and Angle, but those are the top heels in the company at those times, and those are the guys competing for the World Title.
(Of course back then, everyone complained that the same guys were always main eventing, now the WWE elevates people all the time and we get complaints about undeserving champions)

Rikishi no doubt would've had at least 1 reign, maybe a 2-3 month reign.
