I, like many of you, absolutely hated the guest host concept when it first came about. It was just too stupid and too hokey. All of the shows felt the same, despite the fact that the host was supposedly given complete authority. I remember sitting home in disbelief thinking, "OK, so you mean to tell me that Bob Barker, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Cedric the Entertainer, Al Sharpton, Jeremy Piven, and just about all the other guest hosts find the Chavo/Hornswoggle feud so hilarious that they all put them in stupid match types each week? Give me a break." Also, at the beginning, the guest host was all over the show. It was like how on SNL, the guest host is in about 95% of the sketches. That's ok for a show like that, but when you tune into Raw, you want wrestling, not Al Sharpton dancing a jig with Hornswoggle.
I remember hearing a rumor that WWE didn't want to do the guest host thing but they were forced into it by the USA Network, as they wanted to have guests on each of their shows every week as part of their "Characters Welcome" campaign. If that's the case, I can totally understand it. Sometimes the network forces you to do things you don't want to do. However, they were letting it kill the show. Now, that they've stripped the host of the GM power, the concept is much more bearable. Nevermind logic holes like, who is in charge of the Raw brand on pay-per-views. The guest hosts recently have been relatively inoffensive, involved in one backstage skit and linked to one match on the show, like Flavor Flav being on commentary during R-Truth's match and Buzz Aldrin being in Evan Bourne's corner. They have finally found a way to make it work. I never wanted this concept, but in my opinion, it is much more tolerable now.

Nope, still horrible to me, although Horny being separated from the guest hosts make me much more charitable towards him.

Last night with Aldrin just proved that the concept needs to be killed. The only appeal it has anymore is as trainwreck TV. Ergo, Vince will run with it for another 2 years.

I'm not saying this is a great concept by any means. I would love for it to be killed. However, I'm just saying that it is MUCH better than it used to be. Buzz Aldrin may have been awkward last night, but at least he was only on for about 10 minutes. A few months ago, he would have been all over the show and we would have gotten Hornswoggle vs. Chavo Guerrero with both dressed in astronaut suits in some sort of Moon-themed farce of a wrestling match. You can't deny that they have improved the concept if nothing else.

Having Buzz host last night was a stupid idea, and he was really bad anyway. Even JR called out the WWE on how bad it was, lol.

It'll be bearable for me as long as I get The Rock out of it.

It just needs to be killed. Like I said before, ratings have not improved at all. Hell, right now, they are back into the low 3's and WWE cannot use Cena as an excuse. What more do they need to figure out that it's not working?

For me its completely dependent on who the guest host is.
IMO the best has been someone directly associated with the sport, or ironically, David Hasslehoff which was pretty entertaining.

The wrestling legends were perfect guest hosts. Not only because they know the business, but because there's already the foundation laid down in advance for what they'll probably be up to as guest hosts. Like Dusty Rhodes and DiBiase Sr, who had their sons on the roster. Outside the legends, I'll give a passing grade to Bob Barker and Will Shatner as well.

The thing for me is that they keep bringing in all these no name celebs who clearly don't know a thing about wrestling and don't care either; they are there just to have a few minutes in front of the camera, collect their check, and leave. On the other hand, they have had a few guest host celebrities who are clearly wrestling fans themselves and who obviously have the time of their lives with it. Those are actually tolerable, even fun at times. I dare say, look at Meat Loaf: he was only on the show for a few minutes, but he looked like he was enjoying himself, and he got a good reaction out of the crowd. At least they popped to see him get that RKO, instead of the deadpan reaction a lot of the guest hosts have gotten. For me thats the thing. If they actually tried to get more guests hosts who like wrestling and want to have fun with it, that would make it a lot better. Most of them are just nobody celebs looking for a quick paycheck. I have heard Jim Carrey is an admitted wrestling fan-I think he would own as a guest host for RAW, and I am amazed that we have not heard rumors of the possibility. But then again, he might be out of the price range. But still, I rest my case.

If they'd get some actual wrestling fan hosts it be bearable or ex-wrestlers, been thinking they need to a contest where an actual fan gets to host Raw.
