i remember as a kid watching Perfect win the IC title and then the ref handed him a tag team title and he was holding it up. I remember thinking to myself "are they changing the IC title to look like the tag titles??"

Apparently Curt was bad for forgetting to bring his belts with him. Perfect didn't forget the I-C belt. Warrior's I-C belt had the white or blue leather at the time, and the WWE wanted to get that changed before awarding it to the new I-C champ. That's probably one of those things you should do, like, before the match. It's not really one of those, "we'll get to it things". Also, "the belt was in the shop" is one of the worst excuses ever.

That would also explain why RVD was presented a replica ECW Championship on the first episode of ECW on Sci Fi (the new belt was not finished yet).
Jeff Jarrett left his WCW US Championship in a restaurant during a UK tour and had to wear a replica on Nitro until the original belt was found and air-mailed back to the States.

It's more likely they had a new IC belt made and it wasn't done in time. Warrior had a tendency to treat his belts like crap (it's documented he lost a couple belts in his travels).

It can't be as bad as how Global ended up. Where everyone made off with all their belts but the tag ones, which were shamelessly used for all the titles.
