They actually planned to sell t-shirts and action figures and make a cartoon based on Cheetahmen. The people who made Action 52 really were clueless.

I liked Crash as a character, but his game quality did kinda go downhill. Sadly, he didn't have decent spinoffs like Mario or cool cartoons like Sonic to weather the blow. Rocky Rodent went nowhere fast, though. Yeah I liked Crash Bandicoot a lot, until the PS2 version of his game came out and the load times were ridiculous.

I think Crash was a great mascot. Definitely the best thing Sony had on the PlayStation as far as a definable character goes. Plus the first three games were amazing. I liked Crash Bash too.
EDIT: But to actually go with the topic of the thread, I gotta say Cheetahmen. Geez that was a terrible idea.

Wish there was a new Crash game.

Gex, probably.
Didn't Eidos make the Gex games? I remember a WWF PPV was sponsored by them (or some other games company) and Gex was on the poster.

As much as it pains me to say this, I'd have to say Sonic in the last 10-15 years.
I was the biggest fan of his for the longest time, but am tired of defending him. I've really, really tried to like his games post-Dreamcast, but they've gotten progressively worse. Sonic Heroes was very, very meh to me, but Shadow the Hedgehog was the most repetitive game I have ever played. Sonic 06 was pretty damn bad, with lots of bugs, way too much loading, and Silver the Hedgehog being one of the most unplayable characters ever, and that's just talking about the gameplay. Still, to me, since Shadow was so bad, it softened the blow of 06 because I wasn't expecting much at this point.
Now, I don't have a DS, so I can't comment on those games, but I've played Unleashed and, while very, very flawed still, it is a lot better than Shadow and 06 were. Still, it's going to take more than that to pull Sonic out of the "Worst Video Game Mascot" pile.

Personally, I think the end was nigh for Crash when Naughty Dog stopped making the Crash titles, and the character floated around between Universal, Vivendi, and now Amaze Entertainment.
