I noticed that a lot of people label it as a Joan Jett song. Even in the "worst cover" thread, some people said that Britney Spears version is a disgrace to Joan Jett. Granted, the original wasn't as successful but I just wanted to point out she did not create it.

This was featured in a thread I did a while back, about cover songs people don't know are covers. My dad had a couple of singles by The Arrows... not this one, though.

I know it is a cover, but Joan kind of made it hers.

Didn't The Arrows also have a TV Show? Yeah, the poor SoBs. Basically, what happened was that as a relatively popular act, they got either: a show that ran for two seasons, or two separate shows - however, they were in dispute with Mickey Most and RAK Records, so couldn't actually record at the time, so when the shows ended, they quit in disgust. One of them went on to marry Lorna Luft.

Good thread! There's actually a lot of songs that people often don't realize are covers. Here's a short list of some others I've heard commonly mistaken for originals:
Blondie - both "The Tide Is High" and "Hanging On the Telephone" are covers Bobby Fuller Four - "I Fought the Law" is a cover The Clash - "Police and Thieves" Just about anything by George Thorogood and the Destroyers - they were more or less a cover band! Quiet Riot - "Come on Feel the Noise"

Quiet Riot - "Come on Feel the Noise" Yeah I was surprised that a lot of Thorogood stuff was covers. I was also surprised to find out a few years back that Respect was a cover. And If I remember right "Hard To Handle" is a cover song too.

I didn't know, I've never heard of the Arrows. But I love Joan Jett's version.
I heard that after Britney Spears released her cover of "I Love Rock & Roll", she mistakenly credited the original to Pat Benatar.

I'm not sure if people are aware that Soft Cell's version of "Tainted Love" is a cover.

Same thing for people not knowing movies are remakes.
Like a lot of my friends didn't know Scarface is a remake, also Happiness of the Katakuris is a remake of an old korean comedy.
Nirvana's Love Buzz was a cover too, by shocking blue if i recall correctly. I met a guy who refused to believe this was true.

My best friend little brother who just started High School eariler this year did not realize that several Marylon Manson songs where covers. Being he a music buff I looked at him like serously? He thought Manson was the orginal of "Sweet Dreams" "Personal Jesus", and "Tainted Love". He didn't realize that there were songs from the 80's.
