I know there's a 2010 NFL Offsesaon thread but it really seems like this demands its own tread.
I'll tell you that I think differently from 99% of the media. I think that Favre really intended on retiring when he sent the texts a week or so ago, but when veterans like Allen, Hutch, Longwell, Winfield, and Pat Williams told him how much they needed him he started to change his mind. Hutch, Allen and Longwell today changed his mind for sure and he decided he could play.
The big thing is the media is what makes this a big story. The media follows him in a helicopter. The media jumps on every single word he ever says to try and write a story and as a journalism major I can understand the need to make a story that people want to read in the times that written media is dead. It's nothing but a story now. Now the narative is that Favre is some jerk who thinks he is bigger than the game, but as the season goes on, and assuming he is successful, the media will verbally felliate him again and all will be forgotten.
Just remember how the media treats him today and how they will treat him in the middle of the year, and if he goes on to win the Super Bowl, how they will treat him at the end of the year. The sports media is full of hypocrits.
Thanks for listening to my rants, I have been a sports writer for multiple websites but this is the one place I felt I could just write without censoring anything and just let my feelings on the situation run. If there is hate, let the haters hate.
