I preferred the first one (in fact it's still by far my favourite GTA, the 3D editions have been 'eh' at best for me, taking the joke too far for my tastes), but GTA 2 was great too. I remember thinking how innovative the gang favour dealy seemed at the time.
Has any other game tried to progress that idea?

I think most of the original PS2 trio kept with that idea, like how after doing certain things during missions towards certain gangs, you couldn't wander into certain territory without a hail of gunfire.

Oh great memories. Now I have the "Taxi Drivers must die" song in my head.

Fun but frustrating. It took me 7 years to beat this game. Before anyone says anything, for me that means going through all 68 (counting the tutorial) missions without ever dying, failing, or getting arrested.

The only version of it I ever played was the late-to-the-party Dreamcast version of GTA2 (never played 1, and have played all the 3D iterations).
That one was fun, except that it cut that intro movie you have posted, and for some weird (and very stupid) reason the radio station tracks reset every time you got in a car. It was literally:
*get in car*
"I got my main man Richie T...he's like the top monkey in the tree..."
*get out, do something, get back in*
"I got my main man Richie T...he's like the top monkey in the tree..."
My older brother was INSANELY good at this game, and my older brother is SO not a gamer by any sense of the word. To this day it still confuses the hell out of me and my younger brother (both pretty devout gamers) how he was that damn good [/HHH] at it.
