Rant time.
First, a preface.
I'm currently living at home for about a year, fresh off graduating with a BA in writing, reapplying to a dozen or so masters degree programs and hopefully getting hired at Borders (interview is Monday). I don't NEED a huge job at this point, since my parents are more than willing to put me up. I'm also taking a chemistry class in the event I suddenly decide that I want to become a doctor.
I also live in Appalachia, which is well-known for its plethora of employment opportunities.
I'm just getting sick of being told by both the entire internet and a good lot of people offline (not my parents, who are completely behind me for the most part) about how much my life sucks and how I'll never get ahead with writing and how I shouldn't even bother with the MFA and PhD when I'll only be making 50-60k as a university professor, and that I should just enlist in the military as a meat shield or get a job at McDonald's.
I had these quotes thrown at me earlier this morning.
"For one, get a better job and stop fawning over facebook and cell phones"
[...]
"You don't need to justify your life to me. I don't actually care. Your life will continue to suck until you stop making excuses."
Well gosh gee willy Batman, I'm sorry I didn't get a hard science major or a business major so I could start kissing corporate ass already. I'm sorry I'm too artsy to survive in the real world. You better go ahead and tell me some more how much my generation sucks, just because there's no way I can get an entry-level job when they ALL want years of experience it's impossible for me to have straight out of college.
Christ.
/end rant.
Sorry. I needed it.
