Since I'm in limbo for almost a whole year until fall 2011 when my graduate program starts, and I haven't been hired for a job yet, I've got a lot of time on my hands, so naturally, I've been getting back into comics.
A few series I've discovered that I like very much are Irredeemable and its sister series Incorruptible; I've also gotten surprisingly into Jonah Hex, and want to see more.
Other stuff I've read bits and pieces of are Final Crisis and a bit of Blackest Night. Haven't caught up on Marvel for a while.
Key word, new, and try to be as obscure as I can find in a Borders. There's no good comic book stores around here.

The Walking Dead: Just won an Eisner for best ongoing series. Soon to be a TV show, and is just incredible in everyway.
Invincible: From the man that does Walking Dead, is the only Super-Hero style comic I read. It's also very good and touches that Spiderman vein and adds adult situations.
Fables: A fantastic read, about Fables from the storybooks being real. For instance Prince Charming was the same one from each tale so he was divorced four times.
Chew: New series, about a detective that can see the history of everything he eats. So to solve crime he eats some terrible things, and the description might not be gold but the comics are trust me.
Scott Pilgram: I just read the first series to find out what all the fuss is about and it's worth all the fuss, fantastic cheap and easy read.
Y: the Last Man: A 50 issue series that is about Yorick Brown the last man on earth. Other then Walking Dead the best series this decade.
Irredeemable: Imagine if Superman freaked out one day, just over something like being teased about his cape. How much damage could he cause?
*I just got back into the comic book addiction recently, but for my money Vertigo and Image are the companies to read. Vertigo is the adult brand of D/C and Image is a creator owned group that is mostly known for Spawn*

I second "Booster Gold", That series is fun as hell and pretty emotional in parts.
Others I like
- Identity Crisis - A really good Murder Mystery story that is also pretty nasty in terms of content - Hack/Slash - A horror series that follows Cassandra Hack & Vlad as they combat Monsters/Demons & serial Killers, Very fun. - 52 - Covers an entire year of the DC universe without the big 3, This series made me a fan of Booster Gold & Black Adam

Grant Morrison's run of Batman & Robin has been fantastic.
I'd also recommend his All-Star Superman.

Steve Rogers: Super Soldier - It's a damn good comic, and features some good 'ol Steve Rogers asskickery.

I'll always do the big talk for Cosmic Marvel storylines from the last 3 years till present day. The War of Kings mini-series blew me away. I felt the pay-off for dedicated following and money spending on the main book series and tie-ins went high beyond my expectations. It's shame that the most comic book readers stay on Earth in the Marvel Universe when a rocket ride to the stars would do them some good.

Ex Machina, it just ended and every issue was fantastic. It is by Brian K Vaughan who wrote Y the Last Man, Runaways, and some of Lost. It is a political thriller with a jetpack.
Millar and Hitch's "Nemesis". Imagine that Bruce Wayne's parents were Criminals killed by the cops, and Bruce decided to get revenge on police. Yeah that is what this book is about.
Secret Warriors - super hero espionage.
Criminal, 100 Bullets, Scalped - fantastic crime noir dramas.
Fables - what if fairy tale characters were real and ended up in our world?

Going on a different gear...and just because I want this series to be a success so it'll possibly bring more new stuff for him:
Try to find the Darkwing Duck comic series that came out recently.
I'm not a comic reader so that's the best I can suggest, really.

PS, 60 issues, not 50. And not a bad one around.
