...is a real dick. I re-watched the first two movies and I know it's supposed to be cute and funny, but really he just comes off as a disturbed psychopath who makes life miserable for every adult in the movies.

Yeah I agree. In real life he became a roadie for some metal band and he used to post on the imdb.com boards.

"We've adopted Satan!"
John Ritter was awesome in the first two movies.
It's kinda funny how Ritter's wife Amy Yasbeck plays his wife in the first movie, then plays a totally different character in the second.

Near the end of the first movie, he clearly steals his neighbor's car, and yet in the 2nd one, he'c clearly still driving it. I guess the neighbor opted NOT to call the cops?

Point taken, though considering that his adopted son and wife were kidnapped by a serial killer that escaped from prison, I guess they let it slide.

All I know is that Max Cady really seemed to think he was really funny.

All I know is that Max Cady really seemed to think he was really funny. Greatness. One of the best scenes in Cape Fear. That kid always looked like a serial killer to be, and looking at his grow-up pictures, still does. If they ever put Carnage in a Spider-man flick ( not that I'd want that, just sayin), right there's your Cletus Kasady.

In the first film, at least, John Ritter is the hero. I don't think the audience was supposed to like Junior until the sequel.
