The show wasn't bad, per se (it's been eons since I've seen it, though), but to me it seemed like they missed out on a bunch of good storyline opportunities the movie characters might have provided.
Goldberg, Portman and Mendoza alone would have allowed for endless comedy relief. Episodes could tackle various issues, and the on-ice action would definitely keep the animators busy.
Instead, they took the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim's mascot and wrote a weird, kiddie sci-fi storyline around him. When I watched it, I always wondered if it was the NHL franchise they played for that funded their underground HQ and weapons. And if that was the case, wouldn't it have been easier for the ducks to just get the military to help them with Dragaunus?

Because they wanted a TMNT type of thing of their own.
And also because people are stupid that way.

I always just assumed all of the stuff was pretty much solely based around the fact that you had a hockey team in an area that likely wasn't big on the sport (i.e. a sport on ice in an area where water never naturally freezes). So they basically had to find a way to garner interest. Hollywood's nearby, so... 1. Movie and Cartoon 2. Kids become fans 3. 4. PROFIT

Surprisingly, that wasn't the stupidest thing associated with the Mighty Ducks.

As insane as the premise gets, it's actually a rather decent show.

The difference was that someone with good sense nixed the idea of the Blues' third jersey. Man, 1996 was a year for some bad jerseys.

And here I thought the Throwback Jerseys that the NFL foisted on us to get yet more money out of us were bad ...

I actually liked the Islanders' look. Too bad it was associated with the team's failures.

here's some more bad hockey jerseys! the last one gives me nightmares and why can't the Canucks ever have a cool jersey/logo? on the original subject, those type f shows were big back than all those bad TMNT/Power Ranger shows were popular and actually Mighty Ducks was better than most do you remember Real Mummies? No didn't think so. Also a show with the actual movie would have been cheesy and really wouldn't work and would get old real fast. Plus they thought by making this show it would make the Ducks popular nationally, didn't really work but understand them for trying this path.
