Does anyone remember it? I was looking through my old comic collection and found the Ex-Mutants series from Malibu comics. I looked them up and found out that they had their own video game developer, were the company served as publishers of record for the first comics from Image Comics, and gave the U.S. their first american Street Fighter comic series (only lasted 3 issues) and Mortal Kombat. They introduced the Ultraverse line and then were bought by Marvel.
Did anyone collect any series from Malibu Comics? Anyone?

I remember them, but their comics, at least IMO and millions of others, weren't very good. They tried some wacky gimmicks to get bigger sales (bullet holes through the center of a comic, a comic cut out to a characters head) but just looked dumb and desperate doing those things when they should have done the smart thing by hiring better talent to create their books. The Ultraverse line of comics was something in the right direction, but by then it was too late, really. Even with a cartoon series, they were losing too much money and were lucky to find a sucker in Marvel Comics to bail them out.

Marvel wasnt really a sucker. They bought Malibu simply to get their hands on Malibus computer coloring company. Marvel tried to use some of the properties, but screwed them up and finally just dumped them, they had what they wanted.

I liked the Ultraverse line. The Strangers and Prime were pretty good.

Also, that ridiculously dumb Street Fighter comic that was so bad, Capcom put a stop to it, was done by Malibu Comics.
And somehow, their UltraForce comic became a cartoon series. Huh.

I liked some of the Ultraverse characters and concepts. The company itself and most of the characters kinda were what they were; second rate DC and Marvel take-offs; but there were a few if not diamonds in the rough, at least some cubic zirconium there.

I had a few of the comics. I don't really remember much of them, though.

Those MK/SF ones were absolutely horrid. I bought a few for cheap at a local comic shop in MA and...goddamn. Just...wow.

Yeah, the jump in production on Marvel's comics once they bought Malibu was astronomic. When they started using Malibu's coloring department on Uncanny X-Men, they became the most visually beautiful comics I'd ever seen at that point. But as for the comice themselves, I really liked some of the Ultraverse books, even the post-Black September Marvel ones. I really liked Prime and Ultraverse, Nightman had potential that he never lived up to, Mantra was great, and the All-New Exiles with Juggernaut was awesome beyond words and was my favorite book during the short time it was around. Sometimes I wish Marvel would bring back the characters, but then I realize that they'd probably just reboot/reimagine them to the point of not even being the same characters anymore, so what's the point?

Anyone remember the Nightman tv series? I used to watch it and for years thought Martin Sheen was in it.

Anyone remember that Malibu Comic that had a hole that went right through every page of the comic, even on the cover?

Didn't they do Men In Black? Originally it was published by Aircel Comics, which was a black'n'white company that had a publishing deal with Malibu. I have both of the original mini-series. I was an out-of-control collector... If anything had the remotest chance of being big, I bought it. I bought a ton of crap back then.
