...I always remembered it being weird after a little bit. But I forgot just how weird it really got. Like...what...? It's not as bad as some make it out to be, certainly entertaining. I'm not a huge fan of what they did to Cobra Commander and all (mostly because I consider his Marvel Comics version to be the definitive version) but it's pretty much whatever. It's fun nostalgia and I'll always love it, I watched the Arise, Serpentor, Arise! Miniseries before it and that did help a smidge. Gotta get the rest of the Sunbow series on DVD, I'm glad Shout Factory is putting 'em out there. They're still a lot of fun to watch.

Well, clearly the movie was meant, like the Transformers movie, as a relaunch of the series, which, for good or ill, didn't take. So consider it a bit of an abberation.
That said, I do think Arise, Serpentor, Arise, was the best of any of the Joe shows. Still look back on that with fondness

The climax where the Joes pose as government officials and turn the tables on Cobra was great.

I do wish that Duke had died a hero's death, not for the same reason most people do though. I've grown to like him in recent years, but it just would've seemed poetic for him to go out protecting Lt. Falcon.

Funny that after the movie had tried to shuffle things around they pretty quickly set things back more less as they were with that Dragonfire mini series that had Cobra Commander come back and Serpentor pushed aside.

Yeah, I know Prime's death and it's backlash is why Duke lives, and the way the movie just kind of glosses over the fact that he's okay at the end definitely shows it was an eleventh hour change.
I really don't get a lot of the Duke rage anymore, I've been watching the 'toon episodes as well and he really doesn't seem that bad. I still prefer Hawk and Flint as leader types over him, but he doesn't really incite the same kinda distaste for him that some people get. I think maybe Resolute made me change my tune on him and see him in a different way. I also think his, and the rest of the Joe team's treatment of Lt. Falcon was completely justified. I like the Falcon character and all since he manned up and proved himself, but yeah.
Except the Channing Tatum Duke Rage...that I can get.
Anyway, it may sound like I'm hating on the 87 movie sometimes. And I'm not, I'll always love it and it will always have a special place in my heart. I love watching it. I just find it bizarre at how quickly it goes from "fairly normal Joe flick" to "...what the hell is going on?" in the span of about twenty minutes.
Also, I loved how in the opening VA credits, it lists Sgt. Slaughter as "Sgt. Slaughter". Great casting decision or what?

I love that movie. I was considering buying it at best buy early.
My favorite part is when Duke is injured and Hawk(I think) shows his sorrow by weeping and saying "yo joe". Proving that "yo joe" has more uses than being just a battle cry.

Proving that "yo joe" has more uses than being just a battle cry. Yeah, that was a great scene. I didn't actually remember Duke bleeding either when I saw it when I was younger, but sure enough he did. I was also aghast that Toei Animation was behind the technical aspects of the film, and when I think about it...it shows, the animation does remind me of "Fist of the North Star" at times. That was just an unexpected easter egg for me in the end credits.

Correct me if i'm wrong. But does Snake Eyes do anything of importance in the movie? All I can remember is him getting snatched up by some tentacles and flailing about to no avail.
That just sorta always stood out to me since he is such a popular character.

Its too bad the movie was created just to sell new toys. Thats why you dont see many of the older Joes in it.

Its too bad the movie was created just to sell new toys. But that's why EVERY episode of GI Joe was created, along with He-Man, Transformers, etc.

Pythona infiltrating the Terrordrome is one of my favorite scenes in the history of animation.
