I'm watching BF as we speak. I've always had a soft spot for it. Big fan of everybody involved, and it's a refreshing change of tone after Burton's 2 Batman films.
Batman (89) is still my favorite however.

I did a thread about this very topic a year or so back. It's ABSOLUTELY as horrible as n Robin. Both movies are terrible. Imminently watchable in an over the top comedic way, but terrrible films nonetheless. I remember someone posting a link to a guys review of Batman Forever. It was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. Was it part of your thread? I do remember some threads on this topic. Honestly don't remember, it's been too long. I'd love to watch a review again though

In all fairness, all the Batman films look really bad. 89 looks really bad next to Begins. Returns looks like another one of Tim Burton's hellish mindworlds, Forever wasn't that interesting, and &Robin, is the "Threshold" of the Batman films. And I liked these films.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you. I can't fathom the love Batman Begins gets. That movie was utter crap from the stupid Bale voice to the crappy costume to the confusing action. As much as I dislike Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, at least I could tell what the hell was going on and the lighting was ok. I've had to watch that miserable Batman Begins 4 times before I finally figured out all the parts of the fights and such.

The script was so bad in Batman and Robin that it completely overshadowed how truly awful some of the special effects were. Mr. Freeze swings on a vine and the vine isn't even pulled tight as he does. Robin is pulled under water by vines in a scene that is blatantly footage played in reverse. Not to mention the icicles that appear to be made of carboard.

batman and robin seems like the poster child for overblown hollywood bullshit
batman forever is barely watchable, but it is lucky enough to get caught in the shuffle between the darker toned burton movies, and B&R.

It took me a while to even give Batman Begins a try, based on how awful I thought the previous two were.

I too loved Batman Begins. I can see some of the complaints for it though.
Batman '89 is still totally rewatchable flaws and all, and while Returns is a complete mess, its atmosphere more than makes up for it, so I can rewatch it any time too.
And as I said, even at their worst, the two terrible films in the franchise are kinda fun in a bad movie way. Hell twenty or so of us rewatched and Robin on TBS some months back and that was a great time.

I liked Batman Forever, but hated Batman and Robin. Val Kilmer was great as Bruce Wayne and softened the loss of Michael Keaton (IMO, the best Batman ever) a little.
George Clooney was totally miscast, and the bad guys in Batman & Robin were just way too over-the-top.
As for the newer Batman movies; Batman Begins was a total bore for the first hour, and only "okay" for the rest.
I liked Dark Knight a lot, but think it's one of the most over-rated flicks of all time.

They're both so bad they're awesome. And I'll state the case for why B&R is awesome on October 31st.

I think one other reason for Batman Forever having a better reputation than B&R (aside from being a better movie) is the age range here.
If I remember correctly, I was still more of a kid when Forever came out, then was starting to hit my teenage years when B&R came out a.k.a. the time I stopped putting up with bullshit movies. I suspect many here are in the same boat.

am i the only one who thinks returns is the best one including the new ones For me, Batman Returns is my personal favorite Batman movie out of those that I've watched. And for the rest of my rankings: 2. Batman Begins 3. Batman (1989) 4. The Dark Knight (a great movie, but not the best EVAR~!) 5. Batman Forever Batman & Robin is the best unintentional comedic movie.

For all theatrical releases, my ranking would definitely be...
1. The Dark Knight 2. Batman Begins 3. Batman: Mast of the Phantasm 4. Batman 1989 5. Batman: The 1943 Serials (Batman vs the evil Jap spy Dr. Daka!) 6. Batman the Movie (Adam West) 7. Batman Returns 8. Batman Forever 9. Batman and Robin

Batman Forever Batman & Robin is the best unintentional comedic movie. It was intentionally comic. I've never got that 'oh, it wasn't meant to be funny' concept. Just watch Arnold. He's aware he's in a shit film. And Clooney has come out and said he played Batman as if he was gay. None of the actors are in a serious film.

I walked into a Blockbuster Video and said, "Can I rent Batman Forever?" They said, "no, you'll have to return it eventually." I'll show myself out.
