I just got done watching Batman Forever and I was wondering how come Batman Forever doesn't get nearly as much hate as Batman & Robin does? I guess one of my bigger disappointments is how two face was handled. In the opening scenes they tried to give him some kind of depth in his opening speech. Then about halfway through they just kinda gave up and made him riddler's sidekick. The explanation of his origin was explained in about 10 seconds too and that was that. That one really irked me. Was Batman just sitting there in court in costume the whole time?? Before someone even mentions the bat credit card two face using the club of all things to lock the wheel of the helicopter was just as lame. The Club??? Seriously? ?? Get this it crashes into the Statue of Gotham Liberty I still wonder when Bats went to Chase's apartment was he going to bang her but keep his mask on? Like why show up to her apt late in the night at her request after making out with her? I highly doubt they were gonna discuss two-face. Oh nooo its boiling acid!!!!!!!!! (facepalm) Batman picking the lock by using the guard's hearing aid? (bigger facepalm)

Well, for me, I found Val Kilmer to be the best Bruce Wayne in a Batman film.
I remember listening to the Directors Commentary. Schumaker at one point saying people who complained about nipples on the batsuit needed to get out more. That made me laugh.

Batman Forever is not that bad of a movie,or at least would not take as much work to fix.

It isn't as bad by comparison. It isn't by any means a good movie, but it does have some positive characteristic. The acting is over the top and for the most part, it is mediocre, but it isn't nearly as offensive to Batman fans as Batman & Robin. In my opinion anyway.

Because Batman and Robin just took the horrible things in Forever and purely used them in Batman and Robin while adding stuff that was even worse! Watch Forever and B&R back to back and you'll see what I'm saying. Anyway also at least Forever didn't have 2 hours of Ice Puns and Bane. So it wins, and I didn't mind Jim Carrey so much although he was much better when he wasn't being wacky although Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face......*facepalm*
So yes it was bad but nothing can beat Batman and Robin in terms of awfulness in a modern movie, although Battlefield Earth and Last Airbender come close.

It didn't have six dozen ice jokes and Uma Thurman playing Poison Ivy as a Drag Queen.

I actually really like Batman Forever other then Tommy Lee Jones and his "interesting" version of Two-Face. It was certainly over the top but it was still less wacky then Batman Returns.

To me, Batman Forever nailed the right mix of camp and serious (whether that is a desirable direction is another question entirely). Batman & Robin took the camp to a level pretty much on par with the old TV show - a level incompatible with anything not living off of nostalgia.

Tommy Lee Jones was a terrible choice as Two-Face. Both sides of his face were just as wrinkled up. I swear all they did was slap purple paint on one side.
Someone like Billy Dee Williams would have been much more appropriate (as Tim Burton understood). Smooth, ladies' man, Mr. Lando "Colt 45" Calrussian...then turned psychotic when he loses his good looks. Tommy Lee had no good looks to lose. Good actor, just completely wrong for the part.
Val did pretty good as Bruce/Batman, Nicole Kidman never looked better and Jim Carrey...well, not a fan. This could have been a good one if they limited it to one villian and cast someone appropriate, and kept Robin out of the film.
Batman & Robin was much worse because just about everyone was miscast and miswritten.

I think Batman Forever is worse than Batman and Robin, quite honestly. And Kilmer being the best Batman, a view shared by Bob Kane? I don't get that. At least Clooney got the campy tone and played accordingly. Kilmer tried to ACT and ends up cycling between the same two or three facial expressions. I blame Joel Schumacher for that. He keeps excusing the whacky stuff and the over the top performances by saying "Hey, it's a comic book movie!" What I think is that Kilmer tried to act but Schumacher kept telling him to lighten it up and he got caught inbetween.

Batman Forever gave us the greatest Seal song ever and the third greatest U2 song ever on its soundtrack. All Batman and Robin contributed was the 32nd greatest Smashing Pumpkins song.

I don't mind when the villians are campy, like Tommy Lee Jone's Two Face, or even Ahh-nuld's Mr. Freeze, but Uma's Poison Ivy was just too much for me. Especially that scene when she kills John Glover's character.

I did a thread about this very topic a year or so back. It's ABSOLUTELY as horrible as n Robin. Both movies are terrible.
Imminently watchable in an over the top comedic way, but terrrible films nonetheless.

For me, it is because Batman Forever at least tried to be a film. Batman & Robin was a freaking toy commercial filled with facepalm worthy puns and one-liners. You know a film is bad when ever Arnuld can't deliver a good one-liner/pun.

I'm flabbergasted that so many think Val Kilmer was a great Bruce/Batman. IMO he's incredibly forgetable: Adam West=campy, Micheal Keaton=AWESOME, George Clooney=stupid campy, Christian Bale=goofy voice, Val Kilmer= ?
