Here's the deal:
I really like someone at the moment and I think she really likes me. (though she does seem to still a little hung up on her ex tbh) But, anyway she keeps calling me 'mate' at the end of every sentence she says, should I be disheartened by this or keep trying to pursue something more with her until I am completely sure what she wants? (she is sending me very mixed signals otherwise atm)
Thoughts, opinions, etc

Saying "mate" doesn't normally mean "I only want to be friends".

Be disheartened.
Unless you guys live a few town apart, phone calls are for friends.
Make a move on her or just keep her as a friend, because she's not looking at you as anything other than a friend right now.
Ask yourself this - have you ever, ever, seen a girl call a guy "mate" and it means more than just "friend"?
But yeah - make a move or get over it.

Oh God, do not listen to that advice. Don't be disheartened just because she uses a word.
Maybe, MAYBE, she calls everybody that? I call everybody I know "dude". I don't change that just because I'm interested in a guy.

Plus if you think she's hung up on her ex - she's probably just using you man.
Make your move and then see where it goes, but if you're into her and she just wants to be friends and is hung up on her ex still, well - have fun listening to her talk about how she misses her ex, mate.

It means she wants sex. With you. Now.
Okay, maybe not. Honestly dude, I wouldn't get your hopes up. It looks like you've settled into the very secure "friends zone" with her.

My fiancee's stepfather calls his partner mate so I wouldn't read anything into it.

I don't change that just because I'm interested in a guy. I call everyone dude or man too. I change it up for girls though and call them chick-dude. Or,if they protest to being called man, I repeat the phrase and call them woman. You'd surprised how comfortable they are with being called man after that. Gals don't like being called woman.
