Okay I kind of forgot why this was so bad that Road Warrior Animal was the Mystery Man, like that it defied all logic and I looked on the net about this angle and found very little on the background about so can someone jog my memory, because I remember hating this but I can't really remember all the details.

No, that's about the gist of it. There weren't a whole lot of free agents floating around at that time, either.

Even worse was the angle run slightly before, where it was revealed that Rick Steiner was his OWN mystery assailant, and not even to set up anybody. I don't remember the details behind it, I just remember it ended up that way.
Rick Steiner was (kayfabe) the dumbest man in pro wrestling.

It was lame because, to be blunt about it, Animal was way past his prime then and didn't have his more charismatic and talented partner to lean on. He never said or did anything interesting in the role and that's why it was forgettable.

Actually yeah I mixed these two up, thanks for the memory jog. I thought that this was one angle and weren't they done near the same time. Which is dumb since mystery man angle kind of suck like The Black Scorpion or the Higher Power. Although the Sin Mystery Man angle was better as Animal didn't attack himself. But doing two of them basically at the same time was ludicrous. Also shows why WCW basically had to die in 2001.

I love the Blade Braxton explanation.
(talking to RD) Blade: Didn't one week he attacked Rick Steiner, and then the next week he revealed himself to be Rick Steiner?
I still laugh every time I think about that to this day. Just the sheer illogical silliness of it all.

I wish more promotions were booked like WCW 2000-2001

My favorite thing about the angle, or more so the reveal at Sin I guess was the delivery on commentary when he unmasks to reveal that it's Road Warrior Animal.
It's Tony and I think Hudson talking, but one of them yells, "I didn't even think he was still in the sport!" and the other immediately yells, "He wasn't in the sport!!!!!" like it's the biggest return in the history of mankind.
Just fabulous stuff.

Don't forget that this lead to possibly one of the most half-assed endings to a match ever.
...Actually, Sid got his leg injured, so it's justifiable...right?

I'm always reminded of Scott Keith's review of WCW Sin, when he wrote (I'm paraphrasing but not by much):
"When I said that WCW would start signing talent from the Dennis Rodman Australia show, I wasn't serious, you bastards!"

To be fair there really weren't any free agents out there that WCW could use. Why they didn't just use someone already under contract I have no idea.
