So I started watching the shows on HDNet last week or so and its not bad. I mean I still like the WWE product more, but I like ROH better then TNA. Im glad its not raunchy and over the top. It has the feel of a 1980s territory like WCCW or Crockett, with some big names and some small nobodies, but all can put on a halfway decent match. I enjoy it more than any ECW product I have seen because it seems less over the top and more "classic".
So far I like the work of Sara Del Rey, Rhett Titus, El Genarico and Tyler Black. I hope I can watch more. It seems a hell of a lot better than TNA.

So, do you like it more than TNA? I think the HDNet show is sort of dull, personally. I love ROH, but almost all of that love comes from their non-television stuff.

Their HDNet stuff is okay, but it's their iPPV's and big shows on DVD where the company truly shines. The plus side to HDNet is that it's at least a competent show, never leaving you to question what the hell you just watched. Plus some of the main events on HDNet are pretty damn good.
I'd recommend checking out their best of HDNet DVD's for an idea.

Are the PPV/DVD shows like the TV shows. Kinda old school but faster paced? I do not want a ECW clone like CZW.

I don't get HDNet on my Dish... However, I do have several ROH DVDs and I do watch the YouTube channel every so often when I can find working headphones cause my soundcard is shot to hell.
I really enjoy the ROH product in its own way. WWE was always my favorite and they nominally remain so, but ROH gives me my workrate fill.

Their television show attempts to build to their big shows/PPV's, but they're filmed months in advance and out of order, so it's not that easy to keep up with continuity in ROH by just keeping track of the TV show. They've gotten better about this, though. As for the shows themselves, they're nothing like CZW, they tend to throw out some excellent wrestling, a hint of story-driven feuds, with an old school feel where the titles are important and big money matches are saved for their more important shows.

I do not want a ECW clone like CZW. CZW wishes it could be an ECW clone.

^^
I've always seen it as CZW is everything that sucked about ECW, and ROH is everything that was good about it.
As for the dvds, pretty much anything from the first show up until Good Times, Great Memories in 2007 is worth checking out. After that, stick with ppvs and the bigger shows like the Final Battles, Glory By Honors, Wrestlemania weekend stuff, etc.

You don't get that from TNA and especially WWE. The tv show has that old school 1980's Jim Crockett feel, not giving away too much for tv but just enough to make you want to check out their dvd's, ippv's and live show. The last two ippv's were incredibly solid, well worth the 15 dollars, and far better than any TNA ppv I've ever watched and better than any WWE ppv since the first ECW One Night Stand.

Id love to see ROH get bigger and take TNA's place although I guess them going more mainstream would be against their whole deal or whatever. TNA is so WWE I may aswel just watch WWE, ROH is a proper alternative. Thats just from the matches Ive seen, I wouldnt claim to be a proper fan by any means but I know most of the guys in it and who's been champion and that.

I'd recommend checking out the last two i-ppv's on gofightlive.tv
The Big Bang in April had some really good matches and Death Before Dishonor VIII had a hot opener and one of the best second halfs of a show I have ever seen.

After that, stick with ppvs and the bigger shows like the Final Battles, Glory By Honors, Wrestlemania weekend stuff, etc. excuse me, but if you stick with that formula you miss out on stuff like Race to the Top Tournament: Night Two, Breakout, A Cut Above, Epic Encounter III, etc. also there is a bunch of stuff from 2002 - 2006 that is skip able (Wrath of the Racket, The Last Stand, Night of the Grudges II, Black Friday Fallout, etc) the best way to go about the dvds when starting out is the easiest and most logical: ask people that have seen the shows which ones you should get.

I'd recommend checking out the last two i-ppv's on gofightlive.tv Seconded. Each has a match that's easily worth the price of the PPV (Kings vs Briscoes and Tyler vs Richards respectively), the rest of the card ranges from good to great, and they fixed the horrible sound quality of Final Battle. If you just want to go for one, I'd have to rate Death Before Dishonor, as Big Bang was bogged down with never ending hype videos and a dire opener that felt it should have been a dark match. BB was still good, but was kept from being great. DBDH was truly epic, from opener to the finish (excluding one middling tag match near the start)

Well even still, what I mean is it's still the same old sports entertainment forumla, bright lights, pyro, extravegent set and such and the same old guys. Even though some of my favourite wrestlers are TNA, such as Joe, it's not a true alternative to the WWE.

DVD Extra is still too high for that piece of s*** To be fair is it any worse than the One Year Anniversary 30 minute clusterf***? yes. yes it is. its on the same level as Konnan's match at Final Battle 2002 and the ICP's one and only match
