This just popped into my head while posting in another thread. Take Diesel's run in 1994 as it happens...
-Absolutely dominates the Royal Rumble as no one ever has before.
-Wins the Intercontinental Title
-Puts in a strong showing in a World Title match at King of the Ring
-Wins the Tag Titles with Shawn
-Over time, he begins showing signs of dissension with HBK.
This is how you build a strong, dominant heel. He looks like he could crush anyone. He goes out and DOES kick everyone's ass. Granted, HBK interferes from time to time but Diesel is certainly built up strong enough on his own. Now, instead of Backlund vs Hart at Survivor Series 1994, Diesel gets a rematch. And he wins.
Think about it. This monster bad-ass trucker becomes the first man EVER to win all 3 titles in a calendar year (actually about 8 months time). And his reaction is to start acting NICE? Imagine instead if they reversed the HBK and Diesel heel turns. Diesel attacks HBK out of nowhere, similar to what Sid would do after Wrestlemania. He claims he needed Shawn to get his foot in the door, but now he can kick down any door he wants and no one can stop him. HBK gives a promo stating that he was looking for a bodyguard, found a friend, and ended up creating a monster. And he's the one to stop the monster....
Have Diesel beat Undertaker clean at the Royal Rumble to build him up even more while HBK wins the Rumble. Either one of them could win at WM 11, either HBK by outsmarting Diesel or Diesel by some brutal means while the ref is out.
Imagine how much better 1995 would've been if instead of Face Diesel against Sid and Mabel headlining PPVs, you had Monster Heel Diesel vs HBK! Instead of the ultra-bland face that they turned Diesel into, they'd just keep building him up more and more as this giant killing machine. I never got why they turned the bad-ass trucker face while keeping the good-looking athlete heel...but wait, then they turned him face a few months later anyway! Such pointless, detrimental booking could've easily been saved just by reversing the roles of two people.
Thoughts? Hopes? Dreams?
