I'm not talking about debuts like Jericho's, where he first appeared on stage and had his famous confrontation with the Rock. What I'm looking for, is who had the best debut match. One that sticks out in my head, is Terry Funk's WWF debut from 1985. The match itself was against a jobber and was short, but it put Funk over great as a crazy heel, especially since he spends a lot of the match beating on the ring attendant. Who else made a memorable in-ring debut?

For as much as I cannot stand the man, Goldberg was done right. They put him in there, no buildup, with a guy, who while not a huge star, had some name value and wasn't someone to be ignored, had him kick out of his finish and beat him clean.

(If I'm thinking of the right match) Benoit's debut as a full-time part of WCW in 1995 against Eddie was tremendous.

Yoshi Tatsu's, while short, catapulted him as a guy not to be f'd with.

John Cena looked very good in that match with Angle. Just what I was going to say. Looking back, this really was a great way to debut a guy who looks like he could become a big deal a few years down the line. Immediately establishes him as a rising up-and-comer to watch, and without requiring anyone to lay down for him.

Dolph Ziggler's debut match with Batista was an awesome match that made him look credible after being treated as a joke for the months leading up to his debut

Jun Akiyama looked so awesome in this, and to think that this was his FIRST match EVER! To be fair though, most wrestlers did not have as much training as Akiyama did, and most likely, does not have a widely available video of their first matches. Honerable mentions go to Chris Jericho and Lance Storm`s first match. Which just so happens to be against each other.

Alberto Del Rio. He didn't get the usual debut, he didn't get a jobber fed to him. He beat Rey freaking Mysterio. He made one of, if not the, top babyface of Smackdown tap out. I was absolutely stunned.

ahmed johnson ppv debut at survivor series 95 Survivor Series 1995 is my faverioute SS of all time and I think Ahmed is awesome in that wildcard match. However I would agree with one of the above posters who said Cena. His early feud with Lesnar was gold also. I remember watching Backlash 2003 |(one of the last WWE PPVs I ever bought and watched) and thinking that he would be a star in a couple of years. I could see that potential in him from the get go.

Randy Savage's in-ring debut in WWE in 1985 was a good one. It's on his DVD. Dude went from pockets of the audience knowing who he was, probably from magazines, to being way over as a crazy heel.
Goldberg's in-ring debut was pretty awesome, too. And very well done by WCW.

Carlito. Winning the U.S. title in your first WWE match is a pretty good deal.

Even back when the IWC didn't even exist there was smarks.

That is ALL we talked about at lunch, how cool the guy who looked like Steve Austin was!
