I've been watching some of AWA stuff and this guy was the shit. I remember being super impressed with his matches when I was a kid and years later they still hold up. Great promos and a terrific worker.
Case in point his stuff with a young Curt Hennig. Nick being about 15 (maybe I'm not exactly sure) his senior and not looking work wise a day older.
Probably under rated in some segments of the wrestling population also; those not overly familiar with the AWA probably wouldn't be able to appreciate him as much as he deserves.

You want to take a look at his feud with Lawler over the close hand punches. Great matches and his promo where he lays the challenge with the fine for punches stipulation is awesome too.

Bockwinkel is amazing. I love his intelligent and calm promo style, and he could go in the ring as well.

Bockwinkel is amazing. I love his intelligent and calm promo style, and he could go in the ring as well. I'm surprised more wrestlers haven't tried to steal his promo style over the years. Or maybe they have and just couldn't pull it off. Such an ultra-smooth delivery, as if he's 100% sure he's correct in everything he does or says.

In some ways, I prefer Bockwinkle over Flair to be quite honest.

From what I've seen of him he reminds me of Jericho's current character. I wish I could see more of his work because he's great.

Agree. Nick Bockwinkel is one of the most underrated wrestlers ever.

What I like about Bockwinkel is that he seems like a class act outside the ring too. When you watch the Spectacular Legacy of the AWA dvd he really seems like a nice guy. Not bitter and very respectful. Much the same can be said for Baron Van Raschke.

One of the things the WWE got right was inducting him even though he never worked for them.
That is how good he is.
He is top 15 ever, no questions asked.

Maybe it's just coincidence, but I don't think I've ever heard of a wrestler who was trained by Verne Gagne that ended up bitter towards the business. It seems that a lot of the class acts of the business came from his camps or had long runs in the AWA. Probably just a coincidence, but it does make you think.

Ole Anderson is about the only one I can think of. I didn't know Bockwinkel was trained by Gagne.

I have no idea if Bockwinkle was trained by Verne, but he was in the AWA for a long time and I feel like Verne was a huge influence on him.

Guy just seems like a class act all the way. And very intelligent. As Heenan said "If you asked him the time, he'd tell you how to build a watch".

Growing up, with all due respect to Ric Flair, I saw Nick as THE world champ. He was great in the role.
