How long do you guys think till Cena ends up with an ego like Hogan or Austin(even though I dont think Austins nearly as bad as Hogan)...
Unno...may be a REAL long time if it happens, with this crowd prolly making him humble and all...

I think Cena is more down to earth. Think about this - never had anyone before Hogan reached that amount of popularity. And Austin was the wrestler that caused the new wave of popularity for the E, pushing it ahead of the whole WCW/NWO thing. Cena hasn't really done anything in comparison to Hogan/Austin/Rock aside from being champ (and his wrestling skills leave much to be desired). I think it would take a long time (if ever) before any ego started to show.

i dunno, he sounds like quite a nice, grounded bloke outside of the ring, but then again, i might be wrong.

I don't think he's the type of person to devolop a RL ego problem. He really works hard with the tons of autograph signings, 5 questions with cena, appearences, and all the tons of other stuff he does. When he had his myspace, he seemed very nice and appreciative of all the stuff he's blessed with. I would be surprised if in a few years I heard of him trying to get into backstage politics and all that crap like Hogan apparently did.

I think WWE trying to force it is what's keeping Cena from reaching Hogan/Austin/Rock levels of popularity. Those three became wrestling royalty because the fans dubbed them wrestling royalty. Anytime WWE has tried to force it it's always turned out bad. Diesel anyone?

I don't think he'll end up with the Hogan/Austin ego, simply because the crowd isn't taking to him near as well. There's certainly plenty of Cena fans out there, but he's nowhere near that level and likely never will be.

How can you develop a major ego when the boss's son gets explicit orders/permission to run down your in-ring ability, and you have to agree with everything he says on TV?

As long as he doesn't End up like a Bret Hart who thought it was all real, Shawn Micheals the consumate crybaby, or Hulk Hogan it's good.
Dude was brought up by Undertaker, Kurt Angle, and JBL, i doubt he would have an ego.
In Fact that's why I think WWE sends wrestlers to develop on SD, because it IS an old school lockerroom where respect always comes first.

I think that it will be a while. Hogan and Austin were never booed (as faces) the way that Cena has been in the past months.

There's no doubt he has an ego. Being the top guy you would have an ego. It's not necessarily a bad thing, as long as he doesn't start acting like an asshole.

You can say what you want about Cena's wrestling skills or character but the guy has never showed 1/4 of the ego of Batista, Michaels, or a HHH.

I've met John Cena 9 times, and never, will cena have an ego. I remember when he was at the mall for an autograph signing last month. they charged $25 per autograph. and everyone paid for one. but still, after it was over, did Cena leave? nope. he decided to go shopping at best buy. most left after the autograph, but there was still like 15 people fallowing him. he was at the GPS systems asking questions to the fans about them. then he decided to call a worker over. the worker went to the back to see if they had any left. meanwhile. Cena stood facing the electronics. it was quiet. but intead of ignoring the fans, he turned his head slowly, making a goofy face the whole time ( like Will Smith ). then walked over to the fans and started signing autographs for free. the first one was a guy in a wheel chair. one of the fans had a freestyle written down on paper with him the whole time. he told his friend that he was scared to read it to him. but his friend convinced hih to go ahead. so the guy goes up to Cena and says " I have a freestyle......I just wanna know what you think." Cena says " a freestyle has to come from the fly though" guy says "oh" and starts to walk away, but Cena stops him and " hey, I wanna hear what you got though, I cant pass a good freestyle." The guy says his freestyle, I dont remember the words, something about the crowd booing him. Cena bounces back with his own freestyle off the top of his head, and includes the fan's freestyle in his act, then the two shook hands, right there in best buy. then the worker comes back and says that they are out of the GPS that Cena asked for, so Cena just chooses another one and goes to cash out. there is still a crowed of like 10 people left, and although Cena was the only one buying something, it looked like a long line, but still a quiet atmosphere though. but then the cashere jokes, and she says " is anyone else buying anything?!" and everyone including Cena and the cashere started laughing. Cena paid his $800 GPS and said goodbye to most of them and left. then outside, he stood by his bright yellow car and hung out with me and 4 more fans for 2 min. before leaving. see, In a few months I'm moving from Connecticut to California to start training at UPW for Pro wrestling, and I asked for his advice. ( he had done the same ). and at first he thought I was crazy, but then backed me up and gave me advice about staying healthy. this was the day after the house show in Hartford where Cena nearly bled to death. He's a damn cool dude. Another time before this at mohegan sun, after the show Cena was walking through the lounge area with fans and no bodyguards. I went up to him and asked for a picture, but my friend was to tired to take one, so Cena said " he wont?!" I said "no", and had to say nevermind to the picture. about 20 min. later, the guards came and escorted Cena outside and told the fans to get back. but as soon as Cena got outside, he looked through the window at the fans and gave a hand gesturing motion as if to say to come outside. so we got out there in the parking lot and there was Cena with his 4 brothers and 20 fans. The WWE champion hanging out in the parking lot with fans and no guards. he traded freestyles, talked about the big show, talked about his past career in bodybuilding, exchanged phone numbers, and exchanged several text messages, took pictures and signed them. Mt friend was awake now, and I went to get the picture. when I went up to him he said "oh, you finally got someone fully equipped now" everyone laughed. this was an hour after raw, the one where Jericho legitemetly busted him open the hardway with the camera. he still took time for this. Like I said, he's a dsmn cool dude.

Though Cena seems like a pretty down to earth guy anyway. Way moreso than other recent big pushes like Orton and Batista.

John Cenas good to the fans, that's for sure. But then again so do many people with big egos. I think the crowd has humbled him when he got stale in the ring.

I imagine that part of why Cena stays near the top of the card in WWE is because he's such an asset as a PR guy. He may not be the most electrifying performer in the ring, but Vince and co. know that he's a guy who'll represent the company in outside ventures better than anybody else in the organization. I've never read anything about him outside the ring even slightly negative. It's always that he's super-charismatic and really good to fans. Even fellow wrestlers seem to have nothing but nice things to say about the guy.
He's shown that he can hold the company's top title, do a crazy volume of PR events and keep his cool in spite of a crazy amount of heat from critics and smark fans who boo him out of buildings. That he hasn't cracked or been arrested for a drugged-out breakdown shows a lot about the dudes character, whether you like him as a wrestler or not.

i wont quote that bloke who wrote loads, but he sounds like a fairly nice person, especially given the abuse he gets thrown at him.
