Just doing some research for an article on Messias, and I'm looking around for what exactly lead to the decision since neither OWW or Wikipedia say anything. I think it might have had to do with him working more for AAA, but I'm just looking for confirmation.

I can't give you a factual response but I heard that they didn't like the reaction he got and elected not to extend his per app deal

I think they just brough him for the Abyss angle and that's it. They really built him up though. Just as I was actually starting to get used to him being in TNA, they released him.

He was a huge waste of space and time. They built him up for weeks, then he finally debuted... and disappeared to the sound of a wet fart.

Didn't he do some big stupid bump in Mexico that got him in trouble with TNA?

Didn't he do some big stupid bump in Mexico that got him in trouble with TNA? He got injured while fulfilling his Mexico dates. When he came back to TNA , Mesias got the same reaction when TNA found out that Tomko wanted to honor his Japan Dates first. SO Mesias had a brush-off match with Abyss & was never seen again.

I was intriuged at his vingettes and the hype but he stood up and no matter how scarry his face may have been...he was 6ft tall and Abyss was 6'9. He didn't look like he could hurt anyone with his offense and often didn't get enough spots to make him look like someone who could defeat Abyss. For his part Abyss sold like crazy for Ricky Banderas (Judas) but in the end it didn't help

Even worse, Abyss was a monster, and they bring someone out from the depths that was SMALLER than Abyss.
At least when they were working to get Taker over in the WWF, they gave him monstrous individuals.
You want to get that angle over, put Matt Morgan in the role. It'd be REAL believable that he could hurt Abyss. Hard to believe that with Mesias.

The last time I remember Mesias in TNA was the barbed wire massacre match on PPV (AAO?) against Abyss. Yeah, it was that one where they couldn't have a barbed wired match in South Carolina, so they had to have that one match live from the Impact Zone in Orlando. If I remember correctly, Abyss got the win. Abyss was bleeding profusely, while Mesias only took one bump on the barbed wire table.

When he came back to TNA , Mesias got the same reaction when TNA found out that Tomko wanted to honor his Japan Dates first. Pretty much this, though the botch in question - he fell off a ladder - was not his fault. The ref wasn't holding the ladder tight enough, if at all really. If he would have done his job, or if Konnan and company would have sprung for a nicer ladder, there would have been no problem with the spot. See for yourself: www.wrestlinggonewrong.com/video/mesias_falls_off_ladder.htmlLadder injury aside, the angle from was doomed from the start. From what I've heard, the part of Abyss' brother was originally supposed to be NWA Anarchy star Mikal Judas. Negotiations between him and TNA fell apart at the last minute, causing them to go to Ricky Banderas (El Mesias) instead. It's a shame too... The guy would have been perfect for the role. Not only can the guy wrestle and work a crowd, he also kind of looks like James Mitchell. Banderas didn't. They ended up going with this... ...But they wanted this:

He took a Massive Bump for TripleMania and got hurt, TNA didn't see the need for him and Abyss basically being the same type of "monster"
I liked him playing the Undertaker to Abyss' Kane personally.

Judas did eventually end up in TNA, but not in the way that anyone was hoping. In fact, we see him almost every week. He's the one in the middle. The other two are Anarchy regulars Kimo (the bald guy) and current NWA National champion Phil Shatter.

This was a gimmick completely different from anything WWE had that was not overtly stupid. *cue Black Reign or Rellick*
