It seemed more like a show out of the 80s to me. Mainly because of all the backstage segments with the wrestlers. The quick shots with Shad/JTG/Masters, Chavo and Ziggler just going to the ring to cut promos without a match, and the segment recaping Hardy/McIntyre ending with the backstage attack. It seems like most of the times these days when there are promos, backstage or in the ring, it is either pre/post match, to set up a match on the show, or to further a ppv fued. I like the fact that they just randomly gave guys mic time who weren't wrestling, maybe Raw should take some notes, especially for their mid-card.

Definitely, especially when watching JTG's, with his theme playing in the back.
Sometimes an old school format could be great if pulled off correctly, and Smackdown did just that.

Does Using a cage match to end a fued count too? Cuz I like how they ended the Jeff/Punk match and the Jericho/Edge fued.

It felt awesome to be honest.
I didn't expect them to put almost everyone on the show, but the backstage segments helped.

It really did.
Awesome show. Made me happy to be a wrestling fan again. I'm horribly worried about how Raw is going to look compared to this...

I thought the same thing. I really got a nostalgia kick out of the backstage segments. Only thing missing were the awesome character backdrops for the promos like Warrior had.

Matt just needs to cut a promo on Drew, saying "I'm gonna come on you like nobody's ever come on you before! Nose to nose, eyeball to eyeball, getting it on like 2 men should do!"

Smackdown definitely proved why it is the A-show IMO. To paraphrase the Friday Night Delight, Raw is nothing more than a cheap version of SNL.

They also used the old-school philosophy of having the RAW draftees do the job before leaving, as both Morrison and Jericho jobbed to Cody and Kofi respectively. Even Edge put over Christian and Big Show in a non-wrestling subtext.

I really enjoy Smackdown so much. It seems that every time they seem to get screwed over during the draft (which happens every year apart from the time HHH was drafted, and I think that was because they were bulk loading the show as it was changing network), they seem to come out the other end as a better show. The writing is so much more logical, the pace of the show is a lot better, we generally get to see more wrestling, and the midget/guest hosts are on the other show. Everybody is a winner!

Since i wasn't around in the 80's it reminded me of 2002 and 2003 smackdown.

I didn't know pec dancing was old school. Apparently you haven't seen anything Arnold Schwarzenegger did in the 70s.

Oh boy, I hate typing this but seriously, LOL. Don't worry it's what you think, he just did alot in body building competitions and his early movies.
